Magic brownie will restore your vision to who cares.
:D

Had to do the reading glass thing myself, last year. First for reading itty bitty lettering, more recently for more general duty involving computers, receipts, etc.

After three or four years in bifocals, I'd had enough, and had Lasek surgery (it's like Lasik, but less invasive) and it took about three months to get to 20/15 in both eyes. I still need cheaters for doing lots of reading, or really fine/really close work, but for day-to-day stuff, I'm glasses free. I only wish I could have done it 20 years ago!

I have the seamless/progressive trifocals they work great. I shoot with open sights so I get a good sight picture and good distance vision.

Monocles are for stupid Germans.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

I'll throw my two cents in on this one since I'm in the middle of this process.

I've worn glasses since I was 11 and had contacts since the early 80's.

I've needed bifocals for about 5 or 6 years (since passing 4-0) and finally went for the exam. I don't like wearing the contacts because I need to get my readers and have no close vision otherwise with contacts, but have to take my single vision glasses off to see up close.

She tried out, what she called, a Mono-Vision contact prescription and it's working for me. Essentially, this takes your dominant eye and puts the distance correction in it, then your up close prescription goes in your other eye and your brain does the work of sorting out which one is which.

In my case, the dominant eye is Right, and my Left eye prescription is that of my Right eye (3x -5.5), minus the correction for reading (ex. -5.5 +1.0 = -4.5)

Ironically, she was able to figure out that this worked by using, yes, a Monocle. I had brief glimpses of Werner Klemperer going on...

FWIW, YMMV, etc

+1 on the stairs. My first pair of bifocals were progressive, and the first day I took a header down some stairs. I eventually decided I didn't care for progressives (or no-line), and went with the old fashioned two power bifocals.

To see just how much your progressives warp your vision, hold up a finger and look at it head on, seeing through the upper portion of your lens. Move your head from side to side a bit. Gradually tilt your head back to access the graduated powers, still turning your head from side to side slightly. Watch how your stationary finger wiggles.

I couldn't get used to progressives. They also gave me headaches, which I rarely have now. I do miss having the ability to focus far easier just by leaning my head back and forth rather than having to move the object or me further or closer.
A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

"HOOOOGAN!!"

Still I would totally wear a monocle if my eyesight gets bad enough for corrective lenses.

And yell, "CURSES!" a lot.
