I'm not sure how getting charged with animal cruelty is going to help her defend herself. I don't think that anybody is arguing with you about difficulty many people will have with intentionally hitting or stabbing another human being, but this suggestion seems to be a really bad idea.Yogimus wrote:Go to kennel, get a medium/large sized dog, and ask her to hit it as hard as she can.Yogimus wrote:As I keep saying... unless you train yourself to hit people, you will not be able to do it when the time comes.

It's hyperbole. The same thing that prevents us (normal) people from doing it to a dog will hold us back against a person, EVEN WHEN OUR SAFETY IS ON THE LINE. That is why sprays and trigger operated defensive tools are preferable.Netpackrat wrote:I'm not sure how getting charged with animal cruelty is going to help her defend herself. Oh. I frickin' hate dogs and have to restrain myself from kicking any that happen to wind up underfoot. But I have to get extremely pissed before I want to take a swing at a person, and it takes a lot to get me there, these days.

Re: Home defense in non-permissive environments...
About 15 years ago my friend had a wasp nest way the hell up in his house. He's afraid of heights and I'm not so I said I'd spray it. His then father in law worked for the electric company and supposedly had 'the good stuff' for killing hornets on the job.Regarding wasp sprays, I had some a few years ago that sent a stream a good ten feet, it wasn't a fog but an actual stream. Killed the wasps immediately too. I don't think I'd want it in my eyes.
It did shoot a good solid stream a good ten feet or more and killed the wasps dead right quick.
Unfortunately, while I was up on the ladder a big old drip from the spray can landed dead in my eye. It felt very cold and I immediately went totally blind in that eye. I said 'fuck' very loudly and came down the ladder a quick as I could. The blindness only lasted 10 or 15 seconds with no apparent lasting effects; but it shut me down cold for a minute there.
Tell your friend to do what she must to save her life, whether it be a shotgun or pepperspray; worry about the rest later.

An 8 oz hammer will bounce off someones skull unless it has a 50" handle.I would recommend something on the order of an 8 ounce hammer with a straight claw,
A better choice would be a 20 oz framing hammer (straight claw) w. a lanyard loop.

I fail to see the connection between hurting a harmless dog, and killing some SOB who needs it.

pepper spray for bears = 5% capsasium or whatever that name is
pepper spray for people = 10% same as above.
Go to a law enforcement supply place or uniform place for the good pepper spray. They come in small keychain sizes up to a crowd control size that looks like a honkin big fire extinguisher. Wahla.....best of both worlds.......

So, somehow, growing up on a ranch, butchering, castrating, hunting, etc prepared me for killing a-holes?
I could see that, maybe, for soldiers, where you may have to kill someone whom you don't nec. view as evil, but I don't see a doubt between "killer/robber/rapist" etc, and "someone who needs to die."
When those idiots were trying to carjack me, I really, really, wanted them to just go away, but I decided at what point I was going to fire, and I don't think I was going to suddenly change my mind.
