Linkarooni - Even IF she got the protective order, that would NOT have stopped him. The ONLY think that would have stopped him was if she had a gun with her and was able to defend/protect herself. The cops CERTAINLY can't protect her, and the only other person who might, would be a bodyguard who was within feet of her all day long. I feel terrible for her husband - my heart goes out to him and their families and friends.

A 23-year-old woman killed outside her Orlando office by a stalker had asked for a protective order but was denied, MiamiHerald.com reported.

Alissa Branton, 23, reportedly turned in more than 70 pages of documents, some e-mails from the stalker, to a judge. The judge denied the request and scheduled a hearing for next week, Fox2Now.com reported.

Police say Roger Troy, 61, fatally shot Branton and then fatally shot himself in an AT&T call center parking lot, when she returned from her lunch break. Her co-workers placed calls to 911 describing the scene.

"This gentlemen just shot this woman several times, and then he shot himself," said another caller, who was clearly flustered and confused. "Can we tell if they're breathing?" asked the 911 dispatch operator. "Oh my God. I don't know, ma'am. I can't go closer," the caller responds.

Branton and her husband, Brent, both worked at the AT&T building where the shooting happened.

Police say Blanton met Troy when she was working at a Hooters restaurant, MiamiHerald.com reported. Blanton says she stopped talking to him after he began sending e-mails describing personal attacks.

The RO stuff is every judges worst nightmare, and the reason why most will NEVER refuse a requested RO. In the days to come he will be absolutely PILLORIED in the press.

As Mike (like ) noted, the RO would not have stopped him, but it MAY have been the thing that pushed him over the edge.

These things are WORSE than useless - they may (and I'm convinced, often DO) trigger the violence, while (obviously) doing nothing to actually protect the petitioner. Those who are an actual danger don't care or might not have acted until pushed over the edge by the RO.

Those who obey it didn't need the "order" in the first place.

Think: If you've decided to murder someone, will the threat of charges of "violating an RO" really matter to you?

But, we are a "Nation of Laws" aren't we.....? Yet another case of Legal System failure. As noted, the judge will probably get pilloried in the Lame-Stream Media (LSM) for not "protecting" the victim when in truth the only protection that was REALLY available was a handgun. But then, that same LSM is virulently against us ordinary "civilians" carrying firearms. The inmates are running the asylum..........

Yup. Knew a dude who did that - twice. Went to court and got the RO claiming he was deathly afraid of the individuals, waited until the circumstances were "right" and shot them. Never served a day in jail.

That's probably true from the POV of the cops, but I was looking at it from the POV of the victim.

Yup, because it has been demonstrated TIME AND TIME AGAIN that RO's don't PROTECT anyone, or stop someone from being assaulted or killed.
