C&R license

Post by survivalists Dad »

My son asked the question on another forum. didnt get a answer so thought id ask it here.
If you dont collect(Buy a dozen)firearms is th C&R license worth the trouble?
Him and his family will be returning to the states in about 12 months and he wanted to know sos he could get the paperwork done if it would be worth it.

Didnt see a place for questions like this so figgered you would put it in the right place(hope not the john).

Probably not worth it if you only buy a couple a year, if for no other reason than you subject yourself to random visits from the ATF to ensure your books are in order. That alone was enough to dissuade me from wanting it.

Yes, it's worth it after about 2 purchases, depending on your local FFL's transfer fee. The fee is like $30, add another $5 for a bound book, and see how that compares to your local FFL's fee. It also opens up more purchasing from Gunbroker or Gunboards/Surplusrifleforum because of the simplicity.

**Edit to add: The BATF can only request to view your bound book, and you can request that it be done at their local field office. They'll never visit you, and if I understand correctly, their records are so f-ed up with regards to C&R FFLs that they'll never be able to.

Your C&R will pay for itself with your first order from midway USA... for the discounts there and at brownells alone it is worth the $30 for 3 years

I have yet to hear of that actually happening

As already noted, the $30 C&R fee is quickly recouped. Lots of on-line gun dealers and gun-related suppliers give their Dealer Discount to C&R holders.
