Some things that caught my eye

This first one is another stock system for pistol, RAPID RESPONSE PISTOL STABILIZER. It looks like a helluva a lot of fun, but I can't imagine it being practical for anyone, especially their, by admission, chief market, law enforcement.

Next up is the Gerber eFECT. It's a weapon's maintenance multi-tool that fits in the pistol grip of an AR pattern rifle. Seems kinda nifty, but I'm curious to know what others think. I've seen plenty of things that look like good ideas end up being complete wastes of time and money.

Finally, the Samson Field Survivor. Loads of thoughtful features for damn near any situation short of a catastrophic failure. Even has an extra pen and an ampule for lubricant, fits in the pistol grip as well, and has a strike plate extending past the grip. I really like this one, at least from reading and looking, and, pending positive reviews from someone whose opinion is worthwhile* I'll likely get one. Only thing about it that makes me pensive, thus far, is the positioning of the built in tools looks like they'll be damn awkward to use in some cases. Especially the screw driver. Maybe if used like a corkscrew, or punch dagger, I dunno.

*This excludes anyone I can think of who does gun magazines and/or shows. They're all paid shills anyway.

The pistol stabilizer is interesting, but I would rather have a KelTec Sub2000 to match my Glock mags. Folds up just as small, quicker to deploy and no NFA to draw unwanted attention.

The other two are useless IMHO.

I agree about the SUB-2000, although I do wish they make them compatible with XD mags at some point.

Why don't you like the tools? One thing about modern rifles that always bugged me was the lack of internally stored cleaning kits. Even if I had a full armorer kit, having at least bare minimal tools in the weapon would be convenient. At the least it guarantees that as long as you have your weapon, you have some ability to work on it if needed.

Don't get me wrong it is really cool and I would get one to keep in my truck to turn my pistol into my truck gun. But why in the world would I pay $525 plus shipping when I could just buy a carbine and leave that in the truck.

SU-2000 MSRP $409 and I really doubt I would pay anything close to that at the local gun store.
M-44 that shoots a REAL bullet--paid $100 or so.

If it was under $150 and no tax stamp maybe. I just don't see ANY buyers at $535.

I agree. Thing has all the practicality of a solar powered (not charged, powered) flashlight. Still would be fun though. If we ever ditched the NFA and they lowered the price substantially, they might have something, but figure the odds on that ever happening.

Even my M1 Garand has a cleaning / tool inside the butt plate of the stock. I'm actually surprised that the AR 's are not issued with one as well. Maybe Gen Patton was right the first time................

Though I am a fan of internal storage on a rifle, neither of those cleaning kits float my boat. I have one of the Otis kits, which retail for about $50, but I slid a few 12-packs of soda to the right armorer and got them for my team last deployment, and yeah....still got it. It's got most of the nifty tools, and MOLLE attachments, along with a belt loop. Just as good to clean with, and without the extra weight on your weapon, so you can add another flashlight, BUIS, magnifier, or astrolabe. I personally don't see the need for a stock cleaning kit anymore, because you're always going to be wearing your armor (always, or else be behind the wire), will probably have an assault pack if on foot, or a bail out bag if in a vehicle.

The stock is pretty much a solution to a question that no one asked.

Kel-Tec would do well if they made an XD compatible unit. I would like to have one to go with my .40. One of the reasons I bought my Glock was for Kel_tec compatibility, but I still don’t have the Sub2000.. Soon ..Soon..

I love tools… But those put me off as redundant, useless, inadequate use of space or just to expensive. I’m not military so I’m armchairing this.

Gerber: Front site tool is useless as my rifle will be zeroed at the range. I can also use other devices to adjust my front site including a bullet. I have a stand alone front site tool and I’ve used it once…

Flat driver I have in my knife or leatherman….

The pick I could use, without all the hinges and body work to hold everything else…

The brush I already have in a toothbrush or tail of my shirt. Looks like it’s for cleaning watches…..

Pin punch I don’t need as my pins can be pushed out by hand. The only time I haven’t been able to get them out was the first disassembly out of the factory.. If they do get stuck through lack of cleaning or damage, I’ll use my leatherman or any thing else that fits.. I think I used the end of a Bic pen to force mine out last time.

Carbon scarper I’m neutral on.


Samson: Total waste of space used for hinges and inadequate compartmentalization. The tools I already have in a compact version. I would rather use handle space for tools and batteries that didn’t require a big ass hinge system. I can just place items in the handle and use a third of the space. Only redeeming value is all the items are connected as one larger unit which make individual loss less likely.

But the main reason I believe the Samson to be inadequate is I have no space in the handle for small magic brownies.

That is reason enough for me to pass on the Samson.

I might go for the Samson, but I've got other budget priorites at the moment that keep me from dropping $110 on a tool that I might need.
