Pretty much, except I didn't go back there and have no intention of doing so. I just renamed a couple of files on MY server after the fact. Look, I tried to be helpful and answer a question that one of their users had about a product I reviewed. It turns out that the moderators didn't like my help, so I took it and brought it back over here where it is usually appreciated. Afterward, I got an email from somebody wanting the link I had originally provided, so odds are good I brought at least one other person with me. 8^)

Well, I'm not going to link them here, but it is the "Frugal Squirrel" forum, a survivalist website. One of those places that you have to register in order to even view the forum at all.

I spent 5 winters in Fairbanks going to UAF, and I never really thought of it that way but I think you are right. And actually, my dad once commented that all the time I spent up there surrounded by hard core right wingers and AIP types would take years to fix, but I think at this point it is safe to say that I was harmed irreparably by the experience.

But yeah, some of those people up in FBX are really out there. And one can't forget to mention all the tree hugging dope smoking hippie communists at UAF itself. Really a stark contrast when you cross University or Geist up there, going in either direction.
And we all get along , sort of. Yup its a fun group . When some one says right wingers I just laugh, we have some serious nuts. Yup we are contagious.

I went over to see what the kerfuffle was about and you have to join before you can view anything on the site...I register, after going through a double BOT check and informed my registration will be complete upon receipt of their e-mail which comes quite quickly, click the link and am taken to the entry page that says I can't access the forum as I have to be judged worthy enough...

I log in today and low and behold there is a photo of this bald, white haired and bearded gentleman holding a bible telling me of all the great stuff on the site...I click past the intro and get to the forum and guess what--to see the threads that I want to see, guns, knives etc. I can't until I have had ten, count them 10 posts to the forum...

NPR, thanks for the heads up on this arsehat's site...I like thousands of others won't be back...

They just implemented the 10 post rule a few weeks ago, with the idea of reducing the numbers of people who lurk but do not contribute. The predictable result was a flurry of "me too" or "that's cool" posts. It was probably better when they were just lurking. It's actually even stranger than that, in that only posts in certain forums count towards the post totals, and of course cutting out people like you who have knowledge to contribute, but cannot access the forums that are concerned with their areas of expertise.

Like I said, I joined up knowing full well what I was getting into, and the only reason was because I wanted access to some of the information there, so I mostly ignored the rest. The thing about only allowing registered users to even view the forum seems to be a common theme among some of the "serious" survival websites. I'm not totally sure what they think they are accomplishing by that, since anybody with a nefarious purpose in mind just has to register and play by the rules long enough to be accepted.

I see they've actually taken the steps to include HTTPS on their connections, to keep companies and others from snooping on their communications. I was kinda' surprised when I added the S to the HTTP protocol and it immediately connected at their home page.

I also noticed the ONLY ammo they listed as being available in their "store" (ammo connection - offsite) was either 5.56mm/.223 or 7.62x39mm.

Well, I'VE BEEN BANNED!

It seems they don't like criticism...I entered a small blurb in the "Introduce" section and then in a second post added a bit more until I got to the seventh post...

I had included this after the blurb:
"This is the second post to qualify to see your super secret, super private, information… I still have no idea in Hell what that ten post minimum accomplishes…"

After each following blurb, with the number increased, I posted one of these:
Do you really think that someone who wants to access your files won’t do exactly what I’m doing…

Do you really think that your information is so priceless and can’t be found anywhere else on the Internet—where it probably came from in the first place…

You make it so we have to register to see your damn forum in the first place and then this stupidity to see the rest of them…

You want to stop lurkers—better lurkers then a falsified members list…

OH, you’ve got 11,592 members on this forum—Yeah, but how many stayed beyond the sign-in…Please explain to me how on the front page it shows Currently Active Users: 78 (73 members and 5 guests)—how the Hell can you have guests with your absurd registration policy…

I then get a private message from ~hf saying I'm banned forever and ever!

Did you know that squirrels are a known carrier of rabies! It seems that the dementia period has set it and death is soon to follow--I hope!

Frugal Squirrel - Fuck you very much!

SeekHer, LOL

I have this vision of a horde (a very small horde, well maybe two...) rabid Alaskan squirrels sneaking across the boarder to visit their mighty vengeance and wrath upon you. Nibbled to death by squirrels...
