I finally shot out the barrel on my trusty Rem700 PSS. While it is down and I save up the money to convert it to .260Rem I found myself in need of a replacement. As luck would have it I found a Rem700 SPS tactical in .308 at a near by shop for a good price. The rifle has the Houge overmold stock that while comfortable and light is not rigid enough so I ordered up a Bell&Carlson tactical medalist A1 stock(really wanted a McMillan HTG but over twice the cost and rather heavy). I had a Williams bottom metal that was going to go on the PSS but I decided to go DBM instead so it will now adorn the SPS.
On to the questions. I've decided on Seekins Precision base and rings since they're aluminum making them light weight and have seen nothing put good reviews as far as durability goes. The one place I am stuck however is a scope. I want a fixed 10X scope with a ranging reticule that can also be used to shoot using holdovers.
So far my choices(sub $600) are limited so I need some opinions on the following if you have used them.
Looking like the top choice...http://www.holsters.com/closeouts/optic ... -800-2.asp
Second being...http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical- ... -P500.aspx
Lastly...http://www.snipercentral.com/menace.htm
I'm leaning toward the Pride Fowler because from the few reviews I could find It has far better glass than either the SWFA or Falcon scope. I don't need higher power than 10X as I'll not be benchrest shooting with this rifle and I wont need lower power as I'm not gonna be using it under 200 yard. At 200 I'll just be punching paper(not for micro groups although I'm sure the rifle will be capable) and at longer distances Using 12" steel reactive targets and gongs.
One thing I haven't been able to find is durability of the PFI scope where the SWFA has gotten rave reviews and so far no complaints on the Falcons.
Last question concerns the trigger. The rifle has the X-Mark pro trigger that while crisp(surprisingly so) and with no overtravel or takeup just plain feels like €r@p. The older style trigger was grooved and solid feeling I believe the new one is MIM. Does anyone know if the old style trigger is a direct swap as I know a few people who should have one laying around?

Re: Shopping for new rifle gear
I posted a while back on the Pride Fowler scopes, but have no experience with them. They come up in a few threads if you use the search function. Here's their website:

I'd wonder if you'd have to tailor your load to match up with the ranging reticle.
One other scope you might consider is the Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x40. I have one, it's okay I guess, looks like they're going for around $200.
