I agree John Ringo's Mike Harmon / Ghost / Kildar character is the ultimate boy's fantasy. He's rich, he has amazing powers as a spy and as a fighter with any kind of weapon, gets paid $5 million from Uncle Sam each time he does anything, casually decides to buy his own sub-nation (including the town, farms, and people in it), ends up as virtual king of the whole place, discovers that for some genetic reason all the men are great fighters, all the women are gorgeous and the women make the world's greatest beer, he ends up with a personal army, he's "forced" to keep a harem of nubile teenagers, and "social custom" requires that he must have sex with at least one each night. When he decides he needs a helicopter, he casually sends his assistant to town to buy one, about like you'd send your teenager to pick up some pizza for dinner. Oh, and he has special connections with the CIA and right up to the President of the U.S., who will send troops and money anywhere he wants anytime he thinks they're needed.

Yeah, boy's fantasy indeed.

Other than the young-teenager level of the plots and characters, the one thing that really did bother me about these books (one in particular) are the endless soliloquies extolling and even proselytizing for sadomasochism. Much of that takes place with just Harmon and two innocent teenage girls aboard a boat at sea, where he proceeds to convince them of the goodness of S&M and very graphically initiates them into the practices. I have no idea how much of that is Ringo speaking through his character, but just in case I don't think I'd ever let him get within 10 miles of my daughter.~

S&m is not my thing but it is fantasy, fantasy.
