Ammo Can Painting

Post by Kommander »

A few years ago I [strike]found this can in the desert[/strike] painted up this can for fun.

Due to the positive responses I got from my U-235 can on another forum I made up a new ammo can this weekend. I batted a few different ideas around before settling on this one:

This one I did differently than the last. Rather than painting the can the base color and then using a stencil I painted the sides and top of the can the color I wanted the markings to be. I then made some stencils out of blue painters tape, put them on the can, and then painted the whole thing the base color. I did run into a few problems though. First Cutting stencils out of tape is a bit of a pain. I need something that is not sticky while I am working on it. Second I ran out of flat black after doing the lid and did not purchase an exact match to continue the job. I have Rustoleum flat on the lid and Kyrlon camouflage ultra flat on the can body. Despite the error I do really like the look of the Kyrlon ultra flat. Not only is it flat, but it also has a rough texture reminiscent of new parkerizing or the cork paint on some old military helmets.

Anyway I am quite happy with how it turned out. My next one will probably be another nuclear themed one. I am currently debating ideas involving the game Fallout, a Chernobyl/S.T.A.L.K.E.R./Soviet theme, or a 1950's Civil Defense can.

Those are awesome. I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to sell those.

But you clearly have too much time on your hands. :P

You need to send a copy of the MHI can pictures to Larry over at Monster Hunter Nation
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

I thought I saw a couple of posts from him, earlier this year.

Workinwifdakids that's the one. Perhaps I can amke a storage container for all my CD stuff. As far as selling them, this is actually really easy to do. All one needs is a can, some paints, and some blue painters tape.

CC several months ago we were talking about the Book and Larry just showed up out of the blue. I don't know if he stuck around though.

I don't know if he is a member here but he is one of the founding members of We The Armed.com It's a forum similar to this one here.
