Chamber and Caliber Conversions?

after reading this thread i got to wondering what conversions can/have been done. im specifically looking for shotgun-to-everythingelse conversions, in .410 bore, 20Ga and 12Ga.

My brother has a very nice set of Kolar tubes. Expensive, but nice.

MCA used to be local and had a table set up at the gunshows. From what I remember they made a nice product. They also make 10" and 18" long inserts which I don't see with the others you've linked. Did you see their shotgun insert page?

As to making such a thing, it's certainly possible, but considering what chamber reamers cost I don't think it would be cost effective to do so.

Its funny this topic should come up. As I mentioned in a prior thread, I've been doing some grunt work in a machine shop lately, mostly involving moving heavy $hit. Today, while disassembling an old workstation for disposal, I came upon this piece of aluminum. Assuming that aluminum is a suitable material for making a chamber adapter, I'd like to make a .410-12 gauge adapter out of it. Are the pressures from .410 low enough that aluminum is acceptable? I have access to a CNC lathe (though I have very limited experience programming it), so this doesnt seem like it would be all that hard.

Does anyone have any diagrams or similar information showing the size shotgun shells need to be within specifications(overall length, diameter, rim diameter, rim thickness, etc)? I don't have access to any actual shotgun shells at present.

Not sure if anyone actually has this data handy, or if they are can point me in the right direction, but this picture shows all the numbers I am looking for. Ideally, I'd like standard values from a table or other source, not actual measurements.

Also, assuming I'm using a 2.75" chambered shotgun, could I create a 3" long adapter and use 3" .410 shells, since I dont have to worry about the shell opening up the same way I do with a full sized shell?

Bonus points for guessing what program I created the diagram with...

Though these appear to be the least expensive of all the adapters, I don't know how long they would hold up, being just an aluminum liner in a plastic case.

Well, Lothar Walther makes chamber-only adapters for various calibres out of a 12-gauge shotgun. They do more than are listed on the English pages (see the German pages for an idea), and those are also available through their US subsidiary.

Among others, Krieghoff makes full-length rifled barrel inserts for shotguns. I couldn't find a link in English, but this .pdf file in German will give you an idea. Such inserts are relatively common in Germany. Adjusting them so that POA = POI is the tricky part, but they come with little grub screw arrangements at the crown.
