I've actually been in theater for about 1.5 weeks, but I am at my actual "home" now.
It certainly could be much worse, I'm with an HQ type group so the accomodations are actually reasonably comfortable. My room is in a bunker so if they call an allert I don't need to run for a ditch, I have internet in my room and only one roomie, and the food is pretty decent.
Commence 1 year of being a miserable staff weenie........now. Actually I'm still turning over, but the days count on my tour clock, so close enough.
Well, I'm here....

Good luck, keep us informed. Just because you are staff, don't get complacent and keep alert.

Stay Frosty, check six, and let us know if you need anything.

Absolutely, complacency kills - and we don't want that to happen to you, or anyone else on our side. I'm sure you'd probably rather be out hunting pirates with a Ma-Deuce, but the guys out front NEED good people behind them, providing GOOD support and not just some REMFs marking time and not taking care of the guys on the edge.Fivetoes wrote:Good luck, keep us informed. The tip of the spear has only so much room, but if it fails someplace behind the tip, the whole thing can break down. As previously said; keep your head down with eyes & ears open - and WATCH YOUR BACK. Not everyone is as friendly as they appear (but you already know that), plus, you're in a good spot to perhaps run into/confront/beat on some glory hounding politician who wants to visit a war zone while they can and it's not too dangerous (so they can run, ducking all the sniper rounds). And you'll probably find the politics of the office are probably less conservative than those out in the field.
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Re: Well, I'm here....
Thanks guys, but it is all good. I have what I need and the wife is going to be sending what I want (that will fit in a box anyway).
I'm here to do staff wienee work to free up some USA guy to go kick doors (or lead guys kicking doors - whatever).....fine and dandy and all that, but I just can't get thrilled for staff work. I'll do my best, but I can't make myself like it.
As for safety, I think SA all the time anyway but even if I didn't, a friend of a friend just got taken out a few weeks ago (also a Navy staff wienee at an Army base) so I am pretty much well reminded there.
