The rule of thumb for an improved cylinder bore is an inch of spread per yard of range. Those cheapie laser pointers you can get at most any Stop-N-Rob come with screw-on lenses which let it project patterns. It shouldn't be too hard for someone better at math than me to design one to match the spread of a shotgun blast.
