How does one discretely inquire if a public building is posted? Online, prior to visiting said building?

What building? If it's a public building and they ban firearms they are supposed to keep lockers or provide some other method for you to store your gun. If they don't then the sign is meaningless.

This building specifically:Kommander wrote:What building? If it's a public building and they ban firearms they are supposed to keep lockers or provide some other method for you to store your gun. If they don't then the sign is meaningless.

I used the term public building in the most general sense intentionally. Government buildings may be required to provide the storage facilities.
The sign may be meaningless or it could be the precursor to:
I would prefer to avoid the trespassing charge.I entered a private business with my concealed handgun and CCW permit. The business did not have any signs posted prohibiting weapons. Shortly thereafter, an employee approached me and said they do not allow firearms in their business and I must take the gun off the premises. Can they do that? Yes. Arizona law permits private business owners (or their designates) to prohibit weapons from being brought onto their property, whether signs are posted or not. Private businesses are typically non-government operated businesses such as grocery and department stores, convenience stores, laundromats, banks, office complexes, etc. Failure to obey the request can result in your arrest for trespassing. Erm...well that's the magic of concealed carry, no one knows it's there. You should be able to call the Phoenix Convention Center and get a good answer, seeing as how they are hosting the NRA in an open carry state and all.

Wow. What little credibility I thought the NRA still had, is vanishing rapidly.CByrneIV wrote:Also, the NRA has already announced no CCW at the convention.

Actually he was quite clear on the subject (all four of them actually). I was not aware the NRA had decided on a no CCW policy. I had gone looking at the convention center website to see if it was posted. That was the actual question. Posting is one way of expressing the owners wishes.CByrneIV wrote:You cannot be charged with trespassing unless you refuse to abide by the property owners wishes when informed.
Your CCW instructor really should have covered this; but I find that most INSTRUCTORS dont even know the law properly.
Also, the NRA has already announced no CCW at the convention.

Another thing to look out for is incompetent signage. There are some places which can not be bothered to put up readily noticeable signs, put them in places so that they will be readily noticeable up entry onto the property, or put them on all entrances into their property. So long as you exercise due diligence in checking for signs at the place you entered the property from you'll be fine. This will occasionally lead to you looking like an idiot as you stand there staring at the front door or a mall looking for a sign but it's for the best.
Is the NRA thing a no concealed carry thing or a no carry at all thing?
