Low cost portable diesel generators

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Uhm, those are 50 hz.

No electrician in his right mind is going to install 50 hertz outlets.

There's another issue.

220V single phase is 2 110v legs 180 degrees out of phase with each other. I'm pretty sure that Euro 220v is actually 220v - 1 hot leg, 1 neutral, and one ground, just like 110 here in the us.

So simply wiring it for 220v, 1phase will not work.

Don't forget Chris, my buddy still has several of those Amish Generators left, all diesel.

Diesel-powered Amish Generator?

I'm trying to figure out where you fit a glow-plug on the Amish...

Yanmar makes small portable diesel generators(2.7kw, 3.7kw, 5.5kw), but they ain't cheap.

Weird, isn't it? :?

Lower voltage incandescent bulbs are more efficient. A 50 watt 12volt bulb puts out more lumens than a 50 watt 120 volt bulb. More of the energy gets turned into light vs heat.

BTW, Chris,

Wouldn't an evaporative cooler(aka swamp cooler) be a lot more efficient for you instead of regular AC? Your humidity level is pretty low out there in Arizona, unlike Louisiana, where swamp coolers don't work very well.

Ahh religious covenents..

Obeying the letter of the law, but not the spirit? Of course!

Grid electric? It's evil! It's connects us to the "english"!

Diesel electric? It's okay! We can maintain our simple ways!

Frankly, it's almost as entertaining as watching banking practices in nations where Sharia law holds sway(which expressly forbids usury, which means some rather creative financial methods, involving things like, the value of a goat  )

I've been looking at the .gov auctions site... They have - for example - a lot of 3 big gen-sets, all say "repairs required" but I'd expect one could cannibalize a good one out of 3 and have some spare parts left...

A friend bought a big trailer-mounted monster to run his 3-phase shop. He's got the power to run half the neighborhood "in case of emergency" if everyone would chip in on fuel.

I assume you're looking for something you could throw on the back of a truck?

Another thought: What about a gas-powered model? I've read that some carb. changes allow dual-fuel use with NG/LPG. It also wouldn't be so hard to run a gas engine on alcohol - which I think is easier to make than to make diesel from raw beans. I also wonder what it takes to run a small engine on wood-gas though I understand the problems with WG production...
