Climb a tree to get away from a blackbear? I thought they would just climb up after you, and it's the grizzly that stays on the ground and shakes you out of the tree...

Unless of course you have a debarked chihuahua to warn you in time...

Black bears have no problem climbing trees, but it may be preferable to feed it a leg at a time, rather than staying on the ground to duke it out on equal footing. At least in the tree with it coming after you, it may be possible to discourage it with well-placed kicks. And any weight advantage it has should be mitigated. Besides, if it follows you up a tree, and you then draw and fire, it will be moving more slowly and present an easier target than if you had stayed on the ground to face a charge.

You folks down in America have to remember , this is urban bear fighting, in the woods you would have a rifle. In the city you need to get real close. :D
