I think it was classified as a DD under Bush I, but both Bush I and Bush II were RINOs anyway, so they may as well have been Democrats. We haven't had a Republican President since Reagan.Netpackrat wrote:There was a democrat in the White House, and they could.D5CAV wrote:Do you recall what the rationale was for qualifying these as DDs?

No, it was under Clinton, because LLoyd Bentsen signed the order as Secretary of the Treasury. Bush I was responsible for the ban of imported "assault weapons" which gave us the 922r parts content rule.

Hmm, seems I was mistaken. the SPAS 12 isn't a destructive device.D5CAV wrote:.Do you recall what the rationale was for qualifying these as DDs?
The Strikers were declared by the Attorney general that they were unsporting, supposedly they used the excuse of the name of the damn things. Remember, every shotgun bore size except .410 is over the magic .50 caliber limit. and needs a "sporting use exemption".
They could, theoretically, declare every shotgun not 410 bore tommorrow a destructive device, and force everybody to either turn them in, or spend 200 bucks on tax stamp, per weapon.

I'm pretty sure the SPAS 15 isn't a DD either, it's just that there were only about 200 of them floating around the states before they got banned from importation.
Here's a link to a 2004 doc on different things, including classifying the USAS-12 and Striker. It's pretty interesting(ly retarded) how they classified the USAS. "It's too wide with a drum, it's too deep with a stick, it's too heavy, I can't swing it like I can my O/U, it holds too many shells, eehhhh I hate it."

I have just received my MD Arms Drum and will give a range report on it. I also have a Wraithmaker on order.
