Well, it's officially a depression now

Post by Aaron »

Based on the rule that it isn't until you lose your job.

Before anyone starts worrying, the VA is finally starting to repay the eight grand they own me (three checks over the next month and a half, in theory) and resuming my monthly pay of eighteen hundred a month. So I'm not destitute and on the verge of being on the street or anything.

That said, I got laid off last week on Wednesday, after declining a job offer the previous week. Would have been nice too, at least double the pay, pick my own hours, be a sneaky bastard, and no non-disclosure agreement like I had at my last job. Would have taken it too, but since the fed.gov wasn't the main client like it was at the job I had, I figured I'd better stay since I'd have job security. Then I got fucking laid off by the bastards three days later. I know I was the new guy in my department, but frankly there was a lot of dead weight they could have trimmed in other departments before chopping one of the three people in the only really productive department.

Adding insult to injury, when I back about the job answer, ready to eat crow, they had already hired someone else.

Doesn't matter - deadweight vs. Useful does not apply in Gov. and/or Union jobs.

Seniority is mother. Seniority is father. Last in, first out.

Wasn't a government job and we don't have a union. The gov was just our biggest client.

And yeah, I saw my boss yesterday and rather than actual effective cost-cutting means, they cut HIS hours.

Idiots.

Dude, don't you know the way the feds write contracts? It may be a government contract, but with all the rules and regs they demand on employee wages, etc, it might as well be a government job. Once the "Union mindset" creeps in, it doesn't matter whether there is one or not.

Sorry to hear that you lost the job. Keep your head up and hustle.

What part of the country do you call home? What kind of work do you perform? Can you get a security clearance?

I live in Whidbey Island, the work is do is fairly inclusive. Mechanical engineering, investigation, security, logistics, admin, and I'm sure I'm omitting a skill set or two.

As for security clearance, yeah. Heck until just recently I still had one.
