Inauspicious Start to Things

Post by Vonz90 »

Well, I get dropped off at the airport to the normal predeployment weeping and gnashing of teeth from the family (being away from them is the only thing that makes deployments bad IMO) - I arrive at the NMPS site and freaking AA lost my luggage.

So, if they don't find it / deliver it tonight, I'm going to be the dork at the first day of inprocessing in civies. Much fun.

Now, if you had changed your name to Rincewind, that wouldn't be a problem.

Except TWA would nail him for trying to fly with 'unlicensed luggage of mass destruction.'

"Carry on" and "Lost." Only two types of luggage.

THIS is why I ALWAYS bring ~2 days worth of necessities in a carry-on. PERIOD.

If travelling in a group, create "outfits" with your clothes and mix among the suitcases so if (for example) 1 bag is lost out of 4 people, everyone has 3/4 of what they brought.

ALL meds and important stuff stay in the carry-on. You're allowed a carry-on suitcase plus a laptop bag and a "purse." I ALWAYS carry a small backpack, my LT bag and a sm suitcase - as much as I can get away with.

Yes, I know what a PITA it is when all the bins are full - blah, blah - but then why should I be the only one on the plane who didn't carry on as much as they could, within the rules? I've literally watched people fight to stuff a giant duffle - bags twice the size of the "test" box at the gate - into a bin. The Stew took the bag and gave the guy a receipt. When we landed they had his bag waiting for him at the door. He whispered to me that this is how you "Check" your bag without risking it being lost... If I didn't travel with my carry-guns I'd probably do the same...

Normally I do more or less the same, but since both aircraft were the commuter sized ones, I had to check the bag I normally use as a carry on one. Obviously the duffle bag had to be checked.
