This is Maggie, a few days after we got her.
IMG_0759edit.jpg
We originally bought her for my aunt, who has cerebral palsy, but it turns out Maggie was way too active for her to really take care of properly; so, she now belongs to us. Of course, none of the rest of the pictures I have really show that. She's lazy at times, too, just like all cats.

She has a bit of a habit of jumping on me and laying in front of the screen while I'm on my computer. This is one time I was lucky enough that she just sat on my legs...

Here's my two faithful feline companions. Sydney is the tuxedo, and Merlin is the tabby. I got them in 1996 as gifts to myself for getting out of the Air Force. They followed me through college, two moves from central Illinois to Chicago and back. Syd is "Mom's Cat." Whenever she watches TV, Syd hops up next to her. When my grandfather died, Mom was heartbroken, and Sydney stayed next to her the entire time to comfort her. Syd has taken to sleeping next to Dad, but that's been almost twelve years in the making. Merlin was my cat through and through. He loved hanging out with my dad, but whenever I got home from work, Merlin ran right to me to be picked up and played with, then he'd follow me in and sit down next to me at the computer and always slept in the crook of my arm with his head on my shoulder. He'd sit up and beg, fetch, and I even got him to play dead every so often like a dog. This photo was taken a couple of weeks before Merlin died of intestinal cancer. I miss him something terrible. Now that Syd's alone, the poor old fellow isn't sure what he's supposed to do. He always used Merlin as a go-between for me and Dad, so he's not sure what to do to get our attention.

He needs another companion. We thought our older cats wouldn't tolerate the new kitten, but they did just fine. They put her in her place once in a while too.

I was told this by some "cat people", breed and show something or other and damn but it works good.

If you want to introduce a new cat or especially a kitten into an existing cat(s) territory put them in a cardboard box, when sounds and smells start emanating from the box the other cats come to investigate and usually on their own can get it open and they discover a new thing which they're so proud of they have to show to you.

Let it sit there until the occupant starts moving around...brought home a kitten who thought it was a great place and time for a nap so 20 minutes later my other cats found her...that was "her" box until she passed.

I'm allergic to cats.

What's going to be interesting is whether or not the big bobcat I shot and is currently at the taxidermist being mounted, makes me sneeze when I pick it up in a month or two. If it does, I'll have to let a friend put it in on display at his Feed-n-Seed store; and I'll be out $350..... :(

It shouldn't. It won't be generating dander anymore. All of the handling at the taxidermist should get the current batch out before it comes home.

My sister lived on the edge of a swamp near FLETC. There were a couple of feral cats living out there, and they soon had a litter. Of the three survivors, my folks got one, I got the other, and a third will be feral all his life.

This is Cammie. She was named Cammie because when she was able to absolutely disappear in the palmettos and other undergrowth around the house and my sister thought of "Cammies". She's adapted to indoor living quite well, but is everybit an absolute killer.

My apartment floor is actually several feet below grade, and the especially harsh winter here has driven all sorts of rodents to finding better digs. She'll set up near the kitchen when she has seen or heard something, and wait them out. This can last for days until that little mousey slips up. Then, I get a gift.

Sorry for the crappy camera phone pics.

I love the "Hey, what are you doing??? Taking a picture of ME???" look.

I tell you, our little formerly feral kitten is so full of character, she makes the other cats appear mild and boring. She's SUPER skittish - it's that heightened survival instinct feral cats have. Sierra also purrs louder than our other two cats, even though she's smaller (but more dense muscle-wise). The other cats will get bored waiting for something to move, she'll sit there and watch it for hours if she thinks she might be able to catch it (especially lizards). And even though she feral, she needs to be near her people (especially when there's a fire going):

And if *I* am in the house, she *HAS* to "help" me, no matter what I'm doing, she insists on being part of the project - even if it's installing a new faucet:

And sometimes she'll do that after getting dirty (rolling in the dirt) too:

Yeah, Clair used to do that too. Watching a normally primped to perfection prima donna of a cat roll in the gravel and get all dirty was the damndest thing.
