I have seen the bit on zombie time and while I think it's a bit odd I do not think it warrants federal government involvement. Given that no federal troops showed to put a stop to it I gather that the feds did not think it warranted their attention either.

go to the "up your alley fair" and take a look at that one...

then while you are trying to keep your lunch down, remember that district belongs to the speaker of the house...

OMFG Penises! RUN AWAY!!!

Seriously, while I really think they all need to get a room (do they not have public nudity laws in SF?) this is hardly case for the National Guard.

Side note: I think it's hilarious that we have gone from talking about a potential VPILF to a penis fair.

How about give us the fair vote for or against statehood that we were denied 50 years ago, where we can choose to become a state, or an independent commonwealth, or one of a couple other options that escape me at the moment. This time let all of the natives vote in it, and don't let the military who is stationed here vote. Last time, the military (which at the time, may have outnumbered actual Alaskans, or were at least enough to skew the results) was told to go vote, and how to vote (for statehood).

Maybe a good thing that. Otherwise AK might just be another former Soviet state wondering if it's next after they finish with Georgia. Wonder if the Reds would have claimed AK before or after rolling into CZ?

I didn't say the military had to leave, just that they shouldn't have been allowed to vote in the election that determined whether or not we became a state, or something else. Particularly since they were told to go vote, and how to vote by their superiors. And many of the natives, particularly in remote villages never had the opportunity to vote, or ballots in a language all of them could read. I'm enough of a realist to understand that the US is NOT going to give up its strategic position here in Alaska, or allow our oil to go to Russia, or wherever. Guess what, the US has military bases in foreign countries all over the world. I'm sure we can reach some equitable lease arrangement between our governments, and if you will just get out of our way, we'll solve your oil problem too.

Even without the US military in Alaska, the Russians would first have to get their equipment across the Bering sea, and trying to occupy a place the size of Alaska would be near impossible. If they thought they had problems controlling Afghans or Chechens, just wait until they get a load of us. They'd be facing thousands of experienced outdoorsmen, and in addition to the usual military calibers, the sniper fire from .300, .338, .375 etc magnum rifles combined with some of the roughest terrain anywhere, would make it impossible to operate. Plus, the sheer length of the pipeline would make it impossible to keep it running anyway, because even a small group of dedicated saboteurs could blow parts of it up and down the line, faster than they could ever hope to repair it. So the Russians would have little to gain in any case.
