Dangerous dad

You don’t mess with Neeson in this brisk thriller

By Chuck Vinch - Staff writer

Memo to the International Federation of Greasy Thugs: If you’re going to kidnap young female travelers to support a sex-slave business, you should try to avoid girls whose fathers are former U.S. intelligence agents with “unique skill sets.”

A bunch of Albanian goons learn that lesson the hard way in “Taken,” sort of a mutant hybrid of “The Bourne Identity” and “Father Knows Best.”

With his tall, broad-shouldered build, craggy visage and growly voice, Liam Neeson is well cast as the protagonist, Bryan Mills, who has retired from a government career in which he “prevented bad things from happening.”

That career cost him his marriage to ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen), now hitched to a rich industrial tycoon, as well as his relationship with daughter Kim (Maggie Grace), now 17.

I've heard this is an escapist's delight and one of the few politically incorrect movies. Amazing that Neeson plays the good guy.

Good acting requires an imagination; reality requires a person not getting lost in their imagination.

I heard the same. Can't wait to see it.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

It was a great movie. Neeson should have been doing these types of action films a long time ago. As to the Bourne comparison, I'd be more afraid of Neesons character. Bourne was a whiney bitch(at least in the movies but what do you expect from Damon) where Mills just kicks asses and keeps going.

The movie had NO RELATION TO THE BOOK (other then some names and the amnesia thing). None. 'Jurassic Park' was a word for word book to movie conversion in comparison to the Borne movies. Loved watching them though. But, I just wanted to be clear and make sure the point got made or reinforced. :p

And 'Taken' was great fun. I love ass kicking in the name of ones children.

It was OK. A little slow to start, and once the action got really going, I had a tough time willing suspending disbelief a few times.
Great sequence at the end though. "Wait, I want to n." Bang!
You'd think they'd learn by now that if you're a counter-terror type, don't name your daughter Kim. She'll get kidnapped every other week.
