I'm getting a Permanent change of Station to Knob Noster Missouri in the near future.
Anyone know much about the local area? I'm not finding much on the internet.

That's because there's not much there. I was there for a few exercises ( my reserve unit was at Offutt, but our parent wing was at Whiteman). Lovely country, great hunting and fishing, no urban sprawl to deal with, but if you're looking to maintain an active social life, you may have problems.
Closest major town is Springfield, try looking that up instead of Knob Noster.

Good news is that you're not that far from KC, so you got the steak and BBQ thing covered. Also not far from I70, so get the hell out of dodge for a long weekend in St Louis or Omaha isn't too bad either.
Haven't actually been to the base but was aboard for some touch and go's for practice when flying out of Offutt and drove past the area to and from the Omaha area en route to other places.

...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Whiteman AFB? Yikes. Four words of advice, as given to me when I PCSed from Lowry to Cannon in 1993: Learn To Love Driving. I'm not sure how good the shooting ranges are in the area, though. Hopefully they'll be pretty decent.
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."
