Gear Queers of the World All Spontaneously Orgasm

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

As Randy said, I don't oppose it because it's new. I think it's silly because it resembles a Rube Goldberg device. It's not practical because there are better ways to accomplish the exact same thing.

The closest thing to a BHP .45 ACP that I've found is my XD .45. But I would put down $600 for a real BHP .45 ACP. FN, are you listening? <crickets>
My ideas are mine. You go out and get your own!

Why you gotta be hatin? He just rolls over turtle-style to change mags while prone.

Duh.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

is, like "No soup for you" or "Someone set us up the bomb" a phrase that has been killed by overuse?
I don't think so, when appropriate, and I think it is in this case. I've never heard anyone ask for someone to come up with an overly complex, additional point of failure item to maintain that you can use instead of just training more with standard carriers.
Then say "I don't think it's a good idea because it adds weight, bulk (lots), complexity and additional points of failure while not adding much desirable in the way of functionality." Argue it on the merits. BTW, I think we agree pretty well about that silly "magazine for magazines" thing.
Perhaps "A hardware solution to a training issue" would be better?
No please don't do that.
...simply saying "it's new so I don't like it" in what you think is a clever way just marks you as... well nothing really good.
I don't think that's what most people ('round here anyway) mean when they use that phrase. At least it doesn't when I use it.
I disagree. If people saw something new, evaluated it and didn't like it because, compared to what it means to replace it "has significant disadvantages that outweigh any new functionality, so I'm going to stick with the older design because it works better" then they'd say that.

Instead they trot out someone else's tired old zinger. (And if they expect the source of the quote to lend weight to the pronouncement, then they are treading on the fallacious ground of argument from authority.) Pet peeve of mine. I hate it.

A Browning Hi-Power in .45ACP would be new, but it is a question that's been asked for years.

Another new tacticool rube Goldberg ammo carrier? Haven't heard anyone asking that one.
The problem with that, and a point that really needs to be made, is that you would be truly shocked to know how many items we take for granted every day of our lives, that we wouldn't want to live without, were mocked when they were new because they really *were* answers to questions noone had asked (in fact the coolest, world-changing inventions all tend to have been answers to questions noone even thought *could* be asked).
And, showing my ignorance, but I've never heard "Someone set us up the bomb". Reference please?
It's from the same mis-translated videogame as "All your base are belong to us". As well as everything that begins "For great justice...."

Somebody asked that question: I asked it. :P I didn't ask those people, though.

Let me explain my lame joke. Awhile back I was trying to think of cool bits of gear to give to an action hero type guy, in a story I've had kicking around in the back of my head. One of the ideas I toyed with was a device to keep him supplied with fresh magazines for his pistol(s).

The main difference though, was that in my idea, loaded mags were rotated into place so the action guy would just have to eject his empty, slide the pistol on to the magazine (naturally, these were extended hi-capacity), and yank his pistol back up, which would free the magazine of the device and let him resume blasting away. I gave up on the idea, though, figuring that any such system would be heavier and bulkier than practical.

As for the FAST system... it looks like it's a lot of fun, but I don't think I'll buy one.

not the other way around.

Well, while we're at it, you might as well see the original AYB video that kicked off the meme.

ROTFLMAO! This thread has kept me tickled from the very inception! Then came the arguments about how one should specifically dislike such a device. The mag mag is hysterical in and of itself, and I'm not even familiar with the Engrish-laden video game, but I love it!

It was a forgettable top-down shooter like Sky Aces or that.

But that opening scene literally vaulted Engrish to the modern lexicon.
