Depends on where you shop.

The median price on Gunbroker for a regular version is about $1,300. The Swat version, about $1,500. (I've since handled both, and decided the Swat version is too front heavy, and the normal version has rails built into the handguard anyway!)

In the gun stores I've visited however, both versions are running in the $1,700 range. I'm going to the gun show in Dallas this weekend to do some price checking there. I'll let ya know.

The rifle was $1600. They can be had for less via gun broker, but with shipping, FFL fees, and the fact that you have to deal with the whole transfer from out of state issue I just about broke even. The normal ones can be had for about $1200 on gunbroker. If you go that route and don't like the stock handguards (and just about no one does) and don't want full rails you can order little rails that can be screwed into the 550 style handguards.

Huh. Little spendy, but then, I haven't heard a lot of bad things.

Oh well. Thanks for the quick responses.

I now have 490 rounds through the gun and it has worked perfectly. I have cleaned it twice so far but I am now starting a torture test and will not clean it until it malfunctions. Now if only I could figure out WTF is wrong with my AK.

That sounds great. I'll have to look for the Commando version. I like the normal version, but in the time it's going to take me to save up enough for the 556 I might as well look anyway.
