Don't overthink it Workin'.

Lube, shoot, clean, relube. Anecdotally my experience is similar to others I know who use it --keeps getting slicker.

Sent a bunch to a 2/5 Marine friend in A'stan. He and his buddies loved it -- except for at weapon turn-in time. Tough to get it past the white glove. Probably due to the wee particles that stay with the metal even after a full shift spent scrubbing. That crew was also converted to Ed's Red. They went nuts for it when I sent a jug spray bottle up to him at Pendleton. They were amazed at how much easier de-carboning was compared to CLP. His armorer insisted he come back to me for the recipe. I sent along that with some ideas for making it up with field expedient components.

I have the Ed's Red recipe somewhere, but I confess with some chagrin that I've never gotten around to making up a batch.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

I clean and lube customer guns routinely here as part of the gunsmithing/repairs both before and after the work/testing done. WD-40, Clenzoil, Dexron, EP Lithium, LSA, Kroil, Eezox, Tri-Flo, Penetrol, Sea Foam, silicone brake grease, cripes, I've used and still use all of 'em for various things. (If this place ever catches fire it'll set off the NORAD Launch Alert at Cheyenne Mountain.) Any lube is better than no lube. Crisco would work well, I'm sure, at least for a while, or canola or olive oil. Most "gun oils" are repackaged "other" oils. If it works for you and you're happy stick with it. Or experiment. Your toys, your choice.

Wd40, dexron atf, stoddard solvent, acetone and lanolin.
I skip the lanolin and acetone.

Uh, there's no wd-40 in it.

It's equal parts Kero, Dexron ATF, Stoddard Solvent(you can substitute Mineral Spirits, or possibly Naptha/Coleman fuel) and Acetone, with Lanolin added at 1 pound per gallon.

It's suggested to forego the Acetone if used in a Soak tank, as it evaporates quickly.

I use Ed's red in a sonic cleaner mostly. If you want Moly get "machine gunners lube" which is what the Rangers use.

Militec is sacrificial just fyi but as the old school folks will recall I did a massive test with Fast Rope and it increased velocity in the barrels by over 100 fps for about a mag worth in several calibers.

On a sidenote, don't use engine oil off the dipstick in a 240B on range day. It results in a condition known as: "Holy fuck the airman is on fire", followed by "Why is Yogi in his dress blues"

I think I posted that in one of the previous lube threads.
