A couple of weeks ago I saw a listing for a 17" Ultra Slim M-Loc rail and got to thinking. I like the look of a SBR with a Flash can sticking out the end of a rail. What would it look like on a 16" barrel?
Well I ordered the 17" rail and it arrived the other day. Today I had a chance to pull out some parts to do a mock up to see what it would look like.
I kind of like it.
Do not relish to feel what the men that used these weapons felt when they saw the elephant. For the elephant has tusk and to see him is to have his tusk dig deep into your soul. You will always have a part of you that will be cold and empty.
Nope. the barrel is 16" the handrail is unusually long. In the past few years 12 and 13 " rails have been the norm but in the last year or so 15" rails have become popular. The 17" rails have just started coming out.

I saw a pic recently of such a gun, 16" barrel and a long handguard--the guy put a conventional muzzle brake on it, and yes, it was partially down inside the handguard. That guard did a classic banana peel from the end, Wiley Coyote couldn't have done a better job.
I didn't have the upper complete, no BCG, charging handle, gas block and tube.
I plan to use an Aluminum gas block and flash can on the build to cut down on the weight. The rail isn't much heaver then same rail in 15".

That is getting up there in to 20 inch barrel A2 length. Looks neat though. How much of a difference does the flash can make from the shooter's perspective?
