Laser Boresighters.

Has anyone any experience with laser boresighting systems? You know, the laser in a dummy cartridge of the caliber in question.

Need to know the good, the bad, and the indifferent.

I've previously used the system that sticks out of the end of the barrel, using "o" rings for the different calibers which sometimes yields a slightly different result i each usage.

And reading about it tells me that it is dead simple to use despite being hard on batteries.

I'm just about to switch over.

I tried one a couple years ago, but found that I got better results with the old-fashioned collimator type for doing scopes.

Yeah, but if I use the Mk 1, Mod 0 eyeball, I'll be "somewhere close." If I use the collimator, and center it, POI will be two inches high, and two inches right. So I set the zero to two left, and the first shot will be really damn close to center. Then, it's just a few clicks to get it where I want it.

Well, that response was a little underwhelming. So, I guess I'll be a guinea pig of sorts.

My main reason is to align iron sights to the bore. Later, perhaps some small scopes. Probably about 200 Yards max for rifles, and about 25 yards for pistols. Like I indicated above, I have an issue with repeatability in my present lash up.

And the cost is about the same for one like I have now and six cartridges, one of each caliber, of the new setup. I also like the idea of shining the laser down the entire length of the barrel rather than just the last six inches or so.

I only have experience with the end of the barrel type, I bought the Cabelas branded unit when it was on sale. It gets me on paper close enough to sight in with my spotting scope. Don't have any experience with the chamber type...
