I'm all for projects for the sake of projects. If you want to do it on a Mauser (or Enfield) - there are plenty of actions or post Buba rifles out there to start with rather than messing up a good one.

Of course, with Mausers there are also new receivers being made by various companies (even Mauser themselves) - so you can get whatever flavor you want if you look around. I don't think anyone is making new Enfields but there a some who deal in refurbished ones.

I'd rebarrel one and call it good. It's more expensive but the chamber is built from the start to do what you want. The chances of catastrophic failure are decreased that way.

Yea, I was kicking the idea around for the Bubba'd one. I don't think I could do it to the gun in original trim.

Did someone say .416 Rigby?

".416 Rigby" (with apologies to Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two Beatles who didn't seem to take themselves too seriously)

Ah, I think my shoulder's broken
Ah, I can't hear anything

.416 Rigby picks up some speed past the chamb'r where ignition has been
Twist one-in-ten?
Goes through a window, sending the crowd who look on in a rush to the floor
Remember Rule Four

All the ducking people
Where did they all come from?
All the ducking people
The floor's where they belong

.404 Jeffery fired indoors what a roar now no one can hear
No one comes near
Still good for hunting, it's been replaced in the years by four-fifty-eights
The Big Five await

All the ducking people
Where did they all go?
All the ducking people
Could they get my brass from before?

Ah, I think my shoulder's broken
Ah, I can't hear anything

.416 Rigby it dropped a cape buffalo and elephant
One shot for two
.404 Jeffery blew out the dirt from the bench thanks to its muzzle brake
No shoulders were saved

All the ducking people (Ah, I think my shoulder's broken)
Where did they all come from?
All the ducking people (Ah, I can't hear anything)
The floor's where they belong
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."
