Survivalist Businesses Surge

Interesting read, via Instapundit:

Ever see the original Connections, by James Burke on the BBC, maybe twenty five years ago? It was about technological change. At the beginning, he talked about the lights going out and not coming back on, and what would be required to survive. It pretty much involved getting out of town (and past all the other people trying to get out of town), finding a rural and defensible place, and learning to use a plow.

I have been thinking about this a bunch lately. Wife's job terminated on 12/24/08 with Mervyn's going out of business. Obamination & company (with GW's assistance) trying to bankrupt the nation and remove our energy sources, etc.

Anyway, I do know how to butcher my own meat. I grew up on a farm and have completed the entire task from slaughter to consumption on cattle, pigs, chickens, deer, antelope, pheasants, etc.

Growing your own produce is a great start, but if you do not know how to butcher livestock, you are going to be in a world of hurts, "if the lights go out."

Get to know some hunters and if nothing else, tag along and observe and learn.

For those who haven't, it's on YouTube

Very interesting in assorted ways. I've been watching them with my son.

Excellent, shoulda known it'd be on Youtube. Interesting that they show the Twin Towers when the lights go out in NY.

I have been a huge fan of his since I was a younger. He has two Connections series (1&2) and one called The Day The Universe Changed, plus various specials. Brilliant man, and very accessible.
