WECSOG or Bubba'd?

Post by First Shirt »

As mentioned in another thread, Boyd's threw me a curve when they shipped me a stock with the forward action screw hole off location (by a full diameter of the screw). When I called them about it, they said that since it was a "special order" (it's left-handed, cut to a 12.75" LOP) and that it was within factory tolerances, I was SOL.

So, rather than give them another chance to screw me out of some money, I decided to see if I could fix it myself. It ain't pretty, (it's just roughed in right now) but the forward action screw goes into its intended place, and the whole thing snugs down nice and tight.

So, does this constitute a WECSOG repair, or have I just Bubba'd a gunstock?

That's WECSOG, you did what you had to do to make it work. Maybe if you'd cut down the barrel with a hacksaw, and/or welded on a muzzle brake made out of who knows what, it would have been a Bubba'd job. ;)

Pillage. Then burn.
First plug the hole. Then make a new one.
One secret to life. Step #1 - Find something you enjoy doing. Step #2 - Find someone foolish enough to pay you to do it.

Oh Candyman, paging Candyman.

And my vote is WECSOG
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Filled the original screw hole with accra-glas (Thank you, Brownells!). Hogged out the original bushing hole to line up with the new screw hole, and accra-glassed the bushing in the new location.

At this point, given the amount of accra-glass that was being used, I'm just happy I can get the screw back out of the stock!

Actually, that thought had crossed my mind, but I'm going to see how it shoots, first. I'd really hate to get bogged down on what is essentially going to be a truck gun/loaner/spare.

So at the end of the day, what you're really saying is that Boyd's QC guy blows dead whales. And his cousin is in charge of Customer Service.

As there is no duct tape, baling wire, or pipe strapping involved, the committee cannot award either WECSOG nor Bubba certifications; this is simply fixing something that was poorly executed in the first place.
The only Bubba'ing appears to have been done by Boyd's.

Nice fix.
