The idea kinda sorta makes sense, I guess... would it be more of a Mini 300, so to speak? That is, a Mini 30 with an extra zero.

Makes sense to me. It only requires minor changes to the tooling and production line. To have a .30 cal, non-comblok caliber in a lightweight, M-1 type action would be excellent. Unfortunately, I won't ever be able to afford one.

I've heard that the .300 Blackout has similar ballistics to 7.62x39.
So, a Mini 14 in 30 caliber? Isn't that a Mini 30?

It's too bad that's made by Ruger. But good, in a way... I've already bought an AR lower for my .300 Blackout, and I hate Ruger more than I hate the AR-15. Although it's a plus that they brought out another new model that wasn't somebody else's existing model.

Similar but inferior. At least for the supersonic loads. So you're paying a premium to be (close but) inferior to 7.62x39.

Er, oops. The subsonic round, where the real interest in the cartridge is found, is quite different.

Despite starting slightly slower, .300 Blackout supers are supposed to be better than x39 at longer ranges due to better BC of the available bullets. And if you have ever tried to reload for x39, you know the bullet choices are abysmal, and availability is spotty.

Call me a Fudd if you want, but I think that if I had a pressing need for a .300 Blackout, I'd get a Savage or Ruger American bolt gun and rebarrel it.

Gotta be cheaper, and for hunting, would be tons more accurate.
