And SM1 has asked if I could change hers over as well, so now I've got two project guns. Remind me again, why do I have minions?
Do you know how many guns I've given away over the past five years? And I still have grandkids coming up. That what minions do.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up, I suppose. Could be worse, I could be spending it on whiskey and wild women.

Or just wasting it.

Just a bit late for BAG day, but the project rifle arrived at the local MOD and Pawn Shop today. Absolutely plain-Jane Savage Model 11, left-hand bolt, pre-AccuTrigger, and noodle stock, in caliber 7mm-08. (Three years ago, that caliber was barely on the radar, now I'm reloading for 5, soon to be 6, of them!) This one came with an extra factory barrel in .308 Win, which I doubt that I'll ever use, but who knows?

The project part involves putting a better stock on it, and converting it to a detachable-box magazine. (It's currently a blind box.) And maybe a Rifle Basix trigger.

This is what I'm starting with.

Don't laugh!! It'll get better!!!

well wear! Looks like a good start. It'll bash Bambi just fine as-is. No harm having an extra barrel, either.

Timney makes a good trigger for that. I helped a friend install one in his wife's rifle and it turned out well.

Since the Timney and the Rifle Basix are about the same price, how tough is the install on the Timney? The Rifle Basix that I installed on SM1's rifle was a drop-in set.

I've heard more good things about the Timney than the Rifle Basix.

It's been at least 2-3 years, but it wasn't all that difficult from what I can recall. A couple of A&Ps managed it, so follow the directions and you should be fine. You will want a trigger pull scale to really get it dialed, else you are just guessing.

Well, the Boyd's stock arrived today, along with the Leupold 4X scope, and the Burris rings arrived yesterday.

Should be able to get it put together Friday, and head to the range Friday afternoon. (Gotta work tomorrow, or I'd be messing with it right now.)

Splendid! What is even better than Friday afternoon? Friday afternoon at the range! Lucky you...

Well, finally got the mag well inlet of the Boyd's stock opened up enough that I could get the action seated. Only to discover that the forward action screw hole in the stock is off location by about a quarter of an inch. (It's a 1/4-20 screw, and is a full diameter off location.) Gonna call them in the morning, but don't think it will do any good, since I had it cut to a LOP of 12.75 inches, which makes it a "custom" stock. Will try to convince them to send me a 5/8x1 1/4" dowel so I can fill the hole, then drill it where it needs to be. Never had a problem with a Boyd's stock before, and I've done a bunch of them.

We are NOT amused! :x
