Forklift the truck sideways onto a flatbed near a warehouse, pull in, place plastic tent over the truck and start pumping in a visible gas, let the guards know that if they exit voluntarily they will be tied up aand be left with the empty truck, alive and well, any one resists and everyone dies (Because they can't fry you twice)

Re: Tech questions for story
Some of the older diesels with fixed injectors still had an electric lift pump to get fuel fo the high pressure pump. Not sure if emp would smoke the pump, but it might blow the fuse.
Covering with a fitted tarp like Yogi says might be a good idea, especially if it has a fine metallic mesh woven in and a grounding strap... if you could disable the rear brakes and mabye pop the u-joint, a heavy recovery vehicle could tow it anywhere. Hookup would be quick, but with any senerio you have to have crew compliance.

We can't to that. It would cost money and actually make sense! A much better plan is to buy everyone shitty cell phones that have a ton of dead spots and have the driver, whose either half asleep or has hands full of sandwich, to call it in. Then we can have our dispatcher send the police to the wrong fucking bank!
I actually know a good deal about this, and can help if you want. As I said the engines are not protected, in vans are really nothing special and are generally in poor repair. The tires are standard commercial tires, again nothing special. Certainly not run flats, because again those would cost money. Seriously these companies would use a cardboard box on a skateboard if they thought it would save a buck.

He's right about a lot of companies. Used to be one here in ohio called Metropolitan. Their trucks were so rusty they had to tie the doors shut. Bald tires, smoking engines, worn out junk. I cut up some of them for scrap.Kommander wrote:evan price wrote:Modern armored trucks are satellite linked to the home office, gps, cameras, status monitors, engine performance, etc. loss of signal also starts an alarm.![]()

Again, disabling or stopping the truck is the easy part. Getting the pallets of money out and onto alternate transport is the hard part.

Re: Tech questions for story
Already thought of emp for the electronic comm. Hard to find someone once they're off the grid and elsewhere than you thought. I'm thinking now of going with a controlled explosive OR, just slapping what looks like an explosive charge on the windshield of each vehicle and telling the crew to get out or else. If you have other ideas or REAL information that'll help, feel free to e-mail me. If you posted here and want to be named in the story, e-mail me with your name here and the real name (or fictitious name) you want in the book. This has been a truly interesting exercise. Thanks everyone.

Re: Tech questions for story
There is another issue. The trucks are so loud and insulated that they can not hear anything from the outside. If you just start sticking stuff on the windshield be prepared for all sorts of strange behavior from them driving off, trying to run down the attackers, to opening fire. The crews simply are not trained for this.

Re: Tech questions for story
Just got the figures for money and armored vans.
If you had a million dollars in each of the six denominations, they'd take up 614,150 cu ft.
The Ford 350 vans that are used for armored cars have a cargo capacity of 258 cu ft. I don't think the payoff is going to be 70 million, in fact it's probably going to be LOTS less.

You can use bonds, or gold for plot reasons.

Re: Tech questions for story
Don't forget that you have to fill the vans with shelves, a seat, a guard (called a hopper) an AC, a hand cart, room for coin, etc. In this story are they hitting random regular vans from a regular company? As to Yogis suggestions the only bonds worth stealing would be bearer bonds but from what I understand those are not used much anymore. You could make the cargo gold but then your dealing with full size trucks, chase vehicles, and much more professional an heavily and guards.Rod wrote:The Ford 350 vans that are used for armored cars have a cargo capacity of 258 cu ft. Send me an email and I'll talk to you more about it.
