Speaking of The Old Republic I thought that the X-Wing pilot, especially his helmet, looked very Old Republic. Despite any, erm, issues with the MMO, I have always liked the visual aesthetic that Bioware came up with for the series.

There was momentary lens flare in the clip during the scene with the Falcon, so it's clearly J.J. Abrams.

I'm guessing it's the New Republic vs. the Imperial Remnant based on the Stormtroopers. Hope for Admiral Thrawn, maybe?

I recall a lot being said about the double end lightsaber bo-staff being a good way to lose limbs.. The movie (that shall not be named) still managed to make it look awesome. (Would have been even cooler if Maul had chopped Jarjar into giblets.)

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Have the video game Old-republic stuff been pitched out of the canon as well? There are saber-proof materials used as starter weapons in those. Dunno how rare they might be by the time of the trilogies though.

As I understand it, the entire extended universe is non-canon unless it shows up in the new films. Which means that the answer to everything at this point is "maaaaaaaaybeeeeee?"

That is apparently the case now, but at one time, Lucas stated that the EU was canon. Now that is out the window and Star Wars has officially become Star Trek.

Voluminous amounts of EU that is essentially worthless. At least, in the Star Wars EU, they had a full-time geek making sure continuity was somewhat followed. Trek never had that. Back stories changed, depending on who the author was.

That does not stop the EU from still being as consistent as possible with itself. I seriously doubt that simply making the EU books into movies was realistically on the table, nor to I think it would be a good idea. I do suppose that it is a little like Trek in that there will sort of be two timelines going forth, but in Star Wars this wont be a plot point or anything. Still it does not make the EU worthless, just as the new Trek does not make the old Trek worthless. Old Trek managed to do that to itself without any help.
