Im still sorting through my surprise at this, so I will confine my remarks to the technical aspect for the moment. From what I know about phpbb, restoring the lost posts after deletion might not be possible, but even if it is, it will be a hell of a lot of work.
I will wait on cleaning up the announcement stickies to see if CC is successful at restoring the posts, if we do end up stuck with the memory hole, then we should clean up the announcements and replace the needed ones.

I've been a bit under the weather and not paying attention recently. This is all something of a shock. But my reaction mirrors Yogi's pretty closely here.

Yeah, my bad. I apologize. I didn't think that through.

You explained it upthread, i don't think your apology was needed. Just let me/us know the verdict on if its possible to restore when you have a chance to look at it. If its not possible, I will do the cleanup on the announcement stickies. Frankly I had been considering doing something similar anyhow, some of the announcement threads were long out of date.

I knew that cookbook was going to bite somebody in the ass.
Sucks nonetheless.

I have gotten a few emails about that too. Lot's of advances for a book that never materialized and zero refunds.

Me three.

I guess this is a good time to relate my last interaction with Chris. This was right around the time he'd sunk a bunch of money into an "uber workshop in the woods of Idaho" claiming he could make/build/fabricate anything. At the time I had a need for a dual-purpose kayak/motorcycle trailer. I exchanged emails with Chris where he flooded me with details of past fabrication projects, how he's in the "in" with metal suppliers, blah blah blah. He quoted me $2000. The price wasn't what bothered me; that he didn't have a work and delivery schedule, or detailed designs, however did. When I questioned him on it he said he needed half up front and he would then deliver detailed plans. That's when my bullshit meter went off. If he'd done this kind of thing before, then the process should be down pat and he would assume that no customer would front any money until detailed plans and schedules are in place and signed off? You front money for materials, not for process documentation.

I terminated the project with him. Whether he actually could/did manufacture/build anything I have no idea. But I sure didn't get the warm fuzzies from my interactions with him.

I too contributed money to his "save the kids" lawyer fund wherein I too violated one of my personal rules; don't give money for emotional reasons. Whether any of that money actually went to lawyers, we'll never know. In retrospect given the train-wreck Chris' life has become, I'd hazard the proposition that the two girls are better off with their father.
