I didn't know anyone made cannon balls out of lead. I've seen iron, and concrete, but I don't think I've ever seen a lead cannon ball. Go figure.lead from one cannon ball will make a bunch of 9mm.

Re: KdT And The 100 Round Rule
We use aluminum molds and make 1.75" round balls for the little one and 2.25" balls for the Napoleon re-production. The other friends we shoot with have two big ones that shoot 3.5" balls behind 1/4lb of blk powdah. I think they call it a 5 pounder in reference to the balls it shoots. At the end of the days its all hand on deck with shovels to scavenge the spent balls for re-use out of the berm but we never get them all, maybe 25% if that. In any potential end days, I know where there is a couple tons of lead if one is determined enough. The mortar uses a 4" steel can of concrete behind 1000 gr of 1F powder. A coat hanger loop is cast into the wet concrete in case we have to pull a round. I can't see as well at this point so I tie strips of wet cloth on the coat hanger so as to leave a bit of a kite tail so to speak. Then us old farts can see 'em going up and then coming down. 17 seconds round trip. The golf balls out of the AR are lost to my eyes about halfway up and out. They're all a hoot to shoot at 5 gallon steel cans filled with water.PawPaw wrote:I didn't know anyone made cannon balls out of lead. One secret to life. Step #1 - Find something you enjoy doing. Step #2 - Find someone foolish enough to pay you to do it.

I thought his rule was a thousand rounds, which means the Obama shortage has given me no end of budget busting trouble.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

His rule was, for anyone, but geared mostly for the novice, if you have a gun in your house, NOT necessarily part of your rotation, it gets 100 rounds, minimum. His rule for SHTF and rotation arms, was 1,000. For instance, you pick one up at an estate sale or flea market, etc, it doesn't go through your front door unless it is accompanied by at LEAST 100 rounds. He expounded upon his reasoning a bit, but it was to ensure that it remained relatively, minimally useful, instead of simply a fancy, expensive club.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Yup. Even the .450NE and .416 Rigby have over 100rds, each of which cost more than 3000 rds of any other of my combat calibers.
The one rifle I've broken the rule for is a little 8mm Berthier carbine. At first, that was going to go out the door as fast as it came in, but it was so slim, light and handy, I decided to try it out.
So far no joy on the clips nor the 8x56R ammo.
