Re: MRI - possible bad results
Update. Her oncologist (and boss) was visibly keeping strictly to the facts. He is quite concerned.
tomorrow is head, neck, chest and pelvis CT scan
Monday is full body petscan.
At this point we are hoping the dye contrast MRI popped a false positive. She has no other signs, but that is not uncommon. If nothing shows on the CT or the Pet scan that is the likely situation. If things show positive on those scans, she is probably looking at a brain biopsy.
If this is a metastasis to the brain from her former breast cancer, her prognosis is VERY POOR. My google-fu says life expectancy of less than 2 years is quite common (sometimes as low as 4 months) and that is using treatments that will give her dementia... essentially make her not be her.
First things first - determining if she has cancer, but this is not a pleasant situation for us.

My wife is happy to pray for your wife. It helps her to leave her own fears.Weetabix wrote:Speaking of MRI's... Do they have a history of false negatives? My wife was in for one yesterday (high intracranial pressure indicated by retinal issues), and they said it came back negative. Do they often miss things?CByrneIV wrote:1. If it's real, thank god they caught it
2. These tests have about an 80% false positive.
No, really, it's really about an 80% false positive. That's how limited our technology and understanding is.
Precision - Prayers sent. Send one up for my wife?

Re: MRI - possible bad results
The wife had her CT scan today. I did math homework in the waiting room.
She also saw the MRI from the other day. The menengi idea is out. She has spots internally as well as at the menengi brain interface. Could be odd structures that she has always had, but... no one is really saying that with conviction.
It is most disconcerting hearing people attempt to pretty up / avoid mentioning a 12-16 month death sentence.

Re: MRI - possible bad results
Its never good when your oncologist calls you at 6PM on a Sunday.
It seems that the CT scans are back. She also has very small nodules in both of her lungs. Still not a certainty that it is cancer, but I am starting to feel the chafe of the rope.
She is still up for a PET scan tomorrow and now an ultra sound guided lung biopsy on Tues or Wednesday.
It got very dusty in the house this evening.
And I know she thinks this is bad, she is cleaning. She cleans when she is scared. She is cleaning her office. Symbolism for her wanting to controlling the mess she can as opposed to the mess we are about to make.
Fuck, just fuck.
