He lives in a dumpster after a divorce.
Living in Austin just means that it wasn't much of a step down.

Perhaps, but on thinking about it, I want to hear what the ex-wife thinks about his current address.
Either she's such a shrew, that a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wrong is a positive improvement, or he is indeed such a guy deserving that "L"-shaped tattoo that she's got to be laughing her ass off at his new digs. Whichever, I want to know.

Re: Professor At UT-Austin Lives In A Dumpster
I mentioned to a former classmate of mine (he's a college professor) that this was more about his social statement and less about sustainable, small housing. If he really wanted to accomplish something of use to humankind, he should have thrown in with the RV industry, etc, who have already solved many of these problems. His response was that the social statement was at least as important, if not more important, than actually accomplishing something with this. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is insight into this particular, and peculiar, mindset. It's all about the "statement" and feeeeeewings…

There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Wright made beautiful houses, that were very unliveable. That's my take from my short time as an Architecture Major.Aesop wrote:Frank Lloyd Wrong

I think you captured the essence, yes. But if you really want unlivable, try working in a building designed by I.M. Pei[n].HTRN wrote:Wright made beautiful houses, that were very unliveable. That's my take from my short time as an Architecture Major.Aesop wrote:Frank Lloyd Wrong

Probably spot-on, and I've never been any fan of his horrendous atrocities and gold-plated turds.HTRN wrote:Wright made beautiful houses, that were very unliveable. That's my take from my short time as an Architecture Major.Aesop wrote:Frank Lloyd Wrong
Beauty can result when form follows function. When there is no function, the style of the form is irrelevant.
A pretty car that doesn't go isn't much use either. (One might even make the same observation about a pretty woman, out of her arm's reach.)
But I was referring to FLWright's brother-from-another-mother, the nameless guy who designed the "container, waste, steel, large - wheeled", in which the hero of this post resides. Clearly the polar opposite of Wright, hence my sobriquet for him, a Joe Friday "Just the facts, ma'am" kind of designer, where it's all function, and no form, forever, exactly the sort of place to put garbage, or an Austin college dean. But I repeat myself.

Falling waters is still to this day one of the most elegant houses in the world. It's also cold, uncomfortable, virtually unliveable 6 months a year(winter), and at least until the major rebuild, woefully understructured.Aesop wrote:Probably spot-on, and I've never been any fan of his horrendous atrocities and gold-plated turds.
I still want to visit it.
