I once had a friend in HS whose parents were just a wee bit Marxist.MarkD wrote:Unfortunately, no, he meant LBJ.Aesop wrote:Or he was referring to Andrew, not Lyndon.
The father was a Nebraska farm boy who rebelled, became a writer and a wit, travelled the world, etc. Once he was detained for a time in South America while travelling because he looked like Che (he was working on a magazine article). He thought it was hilarious, and a compliment. Oh and good material, too. Wound up in NYC doing PR work when he needed money (life as an expat in Canada is cold, hard and poor). To him the Spanish Civil War was like the War Between the States to a Southerner- noble lost cause. I shouldn't be too mean to him, he once got me a job.
Anyway, the ONE thing this friend and I agreed on politically, was that LBJ was a horrific president.
Leftists young enough to grow up protesting Viet Nam LOATHED LBJ with a really impressive passion. (Nearly as powerful as the loathing actual patriotic non-Leftist Americans should feel for him for the *rest* of what he did.)
