That or the power supply port, either/or.
Of the power cables I have, none of them apply a firm connection to my power supply. This means that I am subject to immediate shutdown without warning if any of the following conditions exist:
1.) Cat wants to play with cables
2.) Cat wants to jump on top of computer tower
3.) Cables get tangled in anything, especially cats and/or computer chairs
4.) God hates you
So here's the thing: I have NEVER had a PSU that was sensitive to cables like this, or vice versa. I would assume if it required some special locking power cord it would include it in the packaging, but apparently not. Obviously if possible I would like to replace the cable (of 2 tried so far) but I'm not positive that's a possibility. So I guess:
A: Are power supplies with shitty ports a Thing?
B: Is there a type of power cable I should look into? Maybe with longer/shorter connectors?
PSU cable sucks

I suspect all the good ones are from the same OEM. The rebadging is ridiculous, and you can't trust brands over time- good ones have become crap (or mostly crap, as Chris points out even from crappy brands the high-end models are usually OK).CByrneIV wrote:They are among my preferred brands, but there are others worth considering. Higher end cooler master, antec, pc power and cooling, seasonic, sparkle, rosewill... Just make sure you get well over your required rating, and get a gold or platinum certified model.mekender wrote:I only buy Corsair PSUs personally...
I have to admit, the past couple of years to simplify matters I've just picked out the cheapest Corsair that had the features I was looking for.
A rule of thumb with psu's is that the quality is pretty much directly proportional to how much it weighs. Beware a light power supply.

I would agree with every brand on there except Rosewill... I will not touch their products... I have had everything from brackets to drives from them that stopped working, never again.CByrneIV wrote:They are among my preferred brands, but there are others worth considering. I thought Rosewill was Newegg's house brand, like Kirkland is for Costco.CByrneIV wrote:Rosewill isn't a manufacturer, they're a remarketer. Some of the stuff they remarket is shit, some is not. Rosewill remarkets a lot of oddball products that you can't find elsewhere though; including OEM replacement components for small form factor PC's for example.
If you just stick with the platinum and gold certified stuff, it's just fine... in fact you might... probably will... find that it's physically the same PSU as the major brands, without the cool paintjob, for MUCH MUCH less money.
They don't make anything, it's all relabeling.
