Aww, dammit, now a whole 'nuther line of thought. Get the barrel threaded and see what happens.

I'm thinking a whole line of blanks, color coded for yardage. Red is 300 yards, blue is 250 yards, green is 150 yards, etc. Kind of like the irons in the bag. Fire the rifle from the shoulder at the tee, once on the fairway, the butt of the rifle is placed on the grass and used like a mortar.

This might turn golf into an interesting game.
Sir, I would gladly play that game. I have a feeling the local Po-po would not be so happy with the call they receive on game day.
color comments would be a lot more fun then traditional golf.

Precision is stepping up to the tee. He grabs out the white wrapped Mosin. I think that is a bit much gun for this hole, but he does tend to lob them in. So perhaps the white 500 is not so long for the 400 yard hole.
blammo-
he has a nice arc on that shot and did you see the fireball. He must be using a custom load there. I have never seen blue flame from a Mosin. And look at that, he is only 30 yards short of the pin...

Don't get your hopes up, but I might have one around here someplace. If so, it's in among the raft o' crap that the Beamish Boy deposited every time he came home on leave. The stuff that grunts hoard is alternately amusing and a little scary.

Several family members are trying to get me to take up golf, but I've resisted. I wonder if I can get a golf ball launcher for my Garand or Mosin Nagant?

Edited because I fat-fingered a couple words posting from my phone.
I've got one of those launchers. (I've never used it, mostly due to lack of somewhere to do so.) The one I have will work on any rifle that has a NATO-standard 20mm rifle grenade capable flash-hider. So FALs, G3-clones, Yugo SKS, all should work.

And we thought we played "redneck golf" using small rocks and wedges from the thrift store in town, growing up...

Though, knowing us, the. "Drivers " would have soon gotten out of control...

Gunsmith turned down the barrel and threaded 1/2" 28TPI for me. The launcher was only about $25 with free shipping. If you put a piece of toilet paper in there before you slide the ball home, you can point the rifle downwards without the ball rolling out. Remember those old dark blackish, bluish super balls? You slammed 'em on the concrete and they came back up, hit you between the eyes and the lawyers got involved. It's kinda like that on steroids. I have not figured out how far they go yet but at my age the eyes are not the best and I lose the ball on the way down, but they are way the hell out there by then. I figure that if the deer is standing sideways, holding still and is within 50 yards it will probably be a dead deer. I also thought about good, better and best powder charges to modulate distance but it's still dicey as hell. You can get a crude crimp on the casing with a pair of side cutters just pinching the rim shut. A drop of wax should seal it up a bit. Tons of laughs for all involved when they go off. Great fun.

I wanted a golf ball gun ever since I was a kid and saw one used on the original Avengers, with Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg. IIRC they were finding dead MPs out on the golf course, with golf ball impressions in their foreheads. I looked into building one when I got into potato guns years ago, found some steel hydraulic tubing the right ID, but never got around to it. And yeah, gun golf crossed my mind a time or two.

I did load some golf ball/sabot rounds for my gas fired potato gun. I cut a piece of the barrel pipe about 3" long, then would put a baggie draped over the mouth of the length of tube with it standing on end, then drop a golf ball in it, then fill it up with spray foam and let it set up. It made nice slugs with golf balls at one end, fit the barrel perfectly. The gun ran on MAPP gas and oxy, and had a piezo igniter in a pistol grip slung under the barrel. The concussion was such that it would knock the foam off as it left the muzzle, sending the golf balls waaay downrange. If a regular potato gun went "POOM" when fired, my potato bazooka (yes, it was shoulder fired 8-) ) went "POW!!!", sounding like a stick of dynamite going off(MAPP and oxy will do that). I finally blew it up one Fourth of July, shooting wet nerf balls after the fireworks ran out. Lucky I never blew my head off with that thing.

Don't think of it as golf. Think of it as mobile drinking opportunity.

That die set looks interesting. 40+ years of handloading and I never saw those before.
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.
