The cool thing about the Galaxy Tab 4 is that is that it comes with a GLONASS receiver built in, even the non-phone ones. The iPad non-phone version requires a separate GPS receiver like a Dual XGPS 150 blue-toothed to it.

I've noticed that the common Android hardware platforms seem to come with GPS and GLONASS functionality built in.

Makes sense. GPS isn't gonna be around much longer at this rate.

Why do you think that?

Seems my info was out of date as of around February. Basically, the satellites were waaaay too old and one of the first things to get the axe in 2009 along with the F-22 and C-17 were replacement GPS satellites. But apparently they found the money to start replacing them earlier this year.

Well, I wish they'd quit pulling that nonsense with the A-10. Not out of any love for the plane; when you've just completed a series of hardware upgrades and manufacturers take retirement threats seriously, it basically makes "revenge of the maintenance officer" an understatement.

But, it's only my problem for four more months. Well, three since I'll be taking terminal leave.

The FAA said the same thing about the VORs/VOR airways.........which will be around for.......significantly longer.
