Navy admiral father of The Doors singer dies

CORONADO, Calif. — George Morrison, a former Navy rear admiral and the father of Jim Morrison, the late frontman of The Doors, has died. He was 89.

Morrison died after a fall in a Coronado hospital on Nov. 17, said his daughter, Anne Chewning of Thousand Oaks.

Born in Georgia, Morrison graduated from the Naval Academy and was once the youngest admiral in the nation’s fleet. He was aboard the mine-layer Pruitt in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese bombing on Dec. 7, 1941.
