Presidential eligibility

Post by Rod »

I was reading some of the blogs and items about Obama's eligibility and had a random thought that probably has been mentioned before. There is NO requirement for any other person, including Vice President to be a natural born American citizen. What happens then if the President dies and his VP is NOT natural born? Or if both the prez and veep die in office serially and it goes to the Speaker of the House or even down to say, the Secretary of the Interior?
one can be a Democrat, or one can choose to be an American.

If I am not totally wrong, the 12th Amendment says that no person can be Vice President if they aren't eligible to be President. So you cant be Vice President if you're not eligible to be President.

Also, the requirement of eligibility is to *serve* as President, not to be *elected* as President.
So in your example, if the 3rd person in line is ineligible, the job goes to the next eligible person on the list.
