I hate the fact that judges rule not by law but what they feel, what an asshole.
Question though, given the time, effort and money that has been spent going though the so called legal process, why not just have a plan B. Change your name, move, let the a-hole in Canada try to find you and your family. That could take years. And it seems you are very talented in the way of computers so finding work wouldn't be that hard even in this economic climate. That has to be cheaper, and less stress than now. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
I have another idea, but that is not legal in most states.

Why should Chris and Mel have to run and hide?
I thought Chris was Irish, not French.

Chris,
Can you guys sue the father for any expenses and/or damages? It's obvious to all but the most ardent Democrat that the father is playing a malicious game.

Dammit, Chris!
Any advice I'd have would be illegal or immoral. Were I you, I'm not sure at this point I'd really care much about that.

A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

My suggestion is based on the fact the legal system did not work. I am pragmatic. And, changing my name and where I live is a cost-benefit analysis due to the on going cost of legal games, that seem to get nothing done. And it is not run and hide, it is change for the better. A new adventure in a different area-free from the past. You just live your life and start anew and hopefully without constant stress from a nutball. And it seems the Canadian dude's only mission is to inflict as much pain and cost to Chris and his family. Don't play his game, change the rules. Or do you suggest that pouring another 100K into the legal process with what % of success and over how many years of stressful living is a better option? I just gave what I would do if the legal system screwed me over in that manner.

OK, I'm a bit confused here.
#1. Chris, I thought you and Mel already got married.
#2. Assuming ya'll did, but there was some paperwork snafu on her original divorce, why not go to Los Vegas? I'd think Mel could get one real quick there.
Best wishes to the two of ya'll, in the mean time.

This is the original divorce. It took 4 years and 5 months after me leaving for the divorce to be finalized due to a whole bunch of factors, the biggest being this jurisdictional issue and all of the crap surrounding it. Now I'm LEGALLY divorced.Termite wrote:<Termite scratches head>

We had a private oathtaking 3 years ago, and for us that was enough until we could straighten out all of this legal bullshit.
Oh, and there's no such thing as a quick divorce if one party decides they're going to "punish" the other by making it take as long as possible. Even a divorce by mutual consent takes upwards of 90 days at the least.

Unfortunately, changing the rules in such a way would be letting him win. We'd spend the rest of our lives looking over our shoulders and being on the run. We'd be miserable, and that's precisely what he wants. He wants to PROVE that I am what he thinks, which is a backstabbing, amoral, thieving bitch who hurt him without any good reason and took his kids away and turned them against him. He wants to hurt me and he'll do it whatever way he can. I'm not going to help him like that.postmanone wrote:DougWojtowicz --why should he run and hide.

I'm not running. I'm in the right here and I haven't lost faith in the legal system and I won't unless the Supreme Court itself tells me I'm wrong. One judge being an idiot isn't enough for me to run. That's what the appeals process is for.
As for the cost/benefit analysis, money is just money. There will eventually be a legal end to all of this (at the very least when the younger daughter turns eighteen in thirteen years), but if we ran we'd be stressed out for the rest of our lives with no real benefit other than we could stop paying so much.

I hope this settles in the near future for ya'll.
God speed, prayers, and best wishes.
