Remington brings back their Model 51

It's slimmer than the Glock.
It's not plastic.

If they can get the bugs worked out (hope springs eternal) I'll have to buy two, one for The Boss. She loves her .357s, but this would be easier to conceal.

Seems like it could be a very nifty gun, once they finish it.

It's roughly the same size as Glock 19.

It's almost the same size as an S&W Shield, which is a lot smaller than a G19. It's still a belt pistol though.

Local shops are selling them as fast as they get in.

R51 update:

It was so bad that Remington stopped production. (Some people have even noticed that there is no longer any mention of it on the company's website, though that's a rumor I haven't bothered to verify.) Actually, they not only stopped production they're offering to replace the pistols sold from that first production run. Not repair, replace. All of them.

I agree completely. It appears that there were at least two major design flawa they need to fix though.
I hope they fix them.

Notably, there's no info whatsoever on the Remington Arms corporate site as far as I can ascertain.
So it's made not only of unobtanium, but composed entirely of an amalgamation of pre-SHOT Show outgassing as well.
I'm still waiting patiently for their promised but non-existent double rifle in .45-70.
Call us back in 12-200 months when one is sighted free in the wild.

Honest to god... I have no idea why anyone would want this, buy it, or give a damn about it...

It looks like a makarov with a worse trigger, and is apparently cobbled out of recycled garbage.

Yes I know, it's supposed to be a modern heritage style pistol off the Pederson design... it's not. It's junk. It's not pretty... What's the appeal?

Actually... what it really looks like, is those plastic toys that shot those little spinning plastic disks.

The characteristics the gun is *supposed* to have are what would make it appealing to me. But then any gun that fit the bill would be just as appealing.

The fact that people have/had a boner for this particular gun seems to be some kind of 'lost knowledge of the elders', 'older is better' fetish. (I have to admit, I take a certain minor pleasure in pointing out that this particular gun is crap. A compact, light, accurate, low-recoil carry pistol with good ergonomics in a serious caliber still has appeal, though.)
