Criminy, I haven't even read the other books and that makes me want to unfurl the gonfalon, slam down my visor, couch my lance, shout "Deus vult!", and charge.

Another key point: One of the alien races, the Darhel, called "elves" by those apposing them, are schemeing to use economic measures to turn Homo Sapiens into their own personal Jannisary corp, using debt slavery, just like they did to another one of the alien races.

Unfortunately for them, the nasty monkeys from planet Earth find out and well, things don't go so well for them.

The Darhel are fierce predators that the Aldenata remade into peaceful (on penalty of death) vegans, without actually changing their personalities. Heh. In Galactic society they are naturally the middlemen and bureaucrats, and just as nasty as you'd think. It's actually pretty grimly humorous.

The rest of Galactic society isn't much better.

Anyone know if Kratman is working on the new book with Ringo?

Honestly, they've been hinting at the Roamin' Catholic Posleen for a while. But this will definitely be fun to watch. Kratman does a good job giving his bad guys some character depth, whereas RIngo just leaves them as 2-d cutouts which his good guys can slaughter with impunity. Kratman's touch elevates the series.

Wondering if there'll ever be a reckoning with the Aldenatra?

Heh, Just finished re-reading Yellow Eyes, Kratman's story of the defense of Panama set before Tuloriad and that (in spirit) happens , with that exact quote during a climatic battle.

If you want the most direct story line (I.e. skipping the Cally story line) it's:

A Hymn before Battle
Gust Front
When the Devil Dances
Hells Faire

(All by Ringo)
Watch on the Rhine (Kratman)
Yellow Eyes (Kratman)
Tuloriad
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Are you recommending skipping the Cally line, or just sayin'?

I kind of liked her in the first four. Haven't read the ones after that.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Cally gets her own sub-series of 3 books, written by Julie Cochrane. They're pretty annoying, but some of the content helps give more insight into a few topics. The third one ('Honor of the Clan') is by far the best as Cally and her angst get the least screen time.

When I wrote this:
Earth is saved, the invaders (the Posleen) are defeated and collapse, and much turmoil, intrigue and several less-good books ensue, as it still is yet to be determined what the post-war galaxy will look like, and what place humans will have in it.
I was referring specifically to the Cally books.

No, just that, while part of the same universe and incidents in those stories do tie with the others, they are a branch off from the more direct line from the first 4 to Tuloriad

I've read them, and don't consider them time wasted, but I prefer the straight up combat of the "main line" to the more "dirty war in the shadows" Cally and Co must wage. I find intrigue, conspiracies and wheels within wheels fatiguing over time. I'd make a lousy undercover agent/mole.

Oh, and the Cally series has a few "Oh John Ringo No" moments, that don't bother me but might others.

Can't wait for the next books. Got the Happy/Gotta-Potty Dance going.
Everyone should read 'Tuloriad'. There was nothing surprising about this development. ;) But I have to admit, I've been really waiting to see it.
Well, yeah, the Posleen getting Jehovah was to be expected from the Tuloriad, but the whole "Space Avengers" thing...
Ringo was hinting broadly about a T-1000 style "Memetic Polyalloy" liquid metal ACS for the God Kings. That's just freaking fantastic. I mean really, a Posleen God-King with an even more advanced ACS... the combat ability is...well, impressive.
