I would give some credence to #3 on the first list. Two examples. First, a friend of mine was waiting for his girlfriend, and decided to count his money while he was sitting in his truck. He heard a knock on the glass and when he looked up, he was surrounded by yobs, and they asked for his money. He held up his index finger, then produced his pistol. They ran like Democrats at a reading of the U.S. constitution. Second, my wife used to dump everything in her purse. When she was at a gas station, she couldn't find her debit card, so she dumped out her purse on the passenger seat, WITH THE DRIVER DOOR OPEN. Some dude came up from the side and startled her. He gave the sob story of needing a few dollars to get to the other side of town, and she gave him a fiver. I gave her the riot act for not being organized and for putting herself in a very dangerous position.
Always be aware of your surroundings. Look around your car when you approach it. Look around the stop-and-rob when you go inside, especially look at any yobs and look for the exits. Make sure you don't get followed home from the range. Or from the airport to your hotel.

Re: Defending against rape
This thing sounds like your typical AOL mass-mailer woman thingy, much of it being incorrect or questionable advice (it worked on someone in class, so it must be good!). The vast majority of rapes are by people the victim knows.CByrneIV wrote:Almost every one of those items presented above is factually incorrect, misleading, or at best suboptimal advice, except that you SHOULD absolutely fight back.
Most women are abducted from their homes for example. In fact, the most common rape location is in the home, not outside it.

Everything they can do to influence the attacker that they aren't a good target is to their benefit, including talking about STDs, warts, razor-like piss, smelly yeast infections, having their period with a yeast infection, dysentery, etc.,. Anything to make them believe they're gonna suffer even if the cops don't catch him is good.
I find it EXTREMELY difficult to believe the FIRST thing the predators look at is HAIR STYLE! Gimme a fuckin' break! They don't give a shit about their hair as long as they have someone who's unaware of their surroundings and meekish in their interactions, someone likely NOT to report the crime for fear they'll bring unwanted attention to themselves or they somehow caused the attack. They look for these people 'cause they have no self-esteem and make great victims because they don't report crimes.
The best advice is to not let them take you anywhere, even to the back of the store, and when you get the opportunity FIGHT LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT - because it just might!

Other than situational awareness, if you get grabbed balling up and becoming a dead weight suddenly is a fair tactic. if you get hauled along anyway, a sudden explosion into motion is good. I also teach lots of use of the elbows.

I found this on another site:
See http://www.blacknet.co.uk/Whats_New_v2. ... 3104203919
“It has been brought to our attention that a recently published article on this site, entitled “Through a Rapist’s Eyes”, contained inaccurate/false information, as has been advised by the Met who did NOT originally issue this item back in October 2003; we have been informed as follows:
- this is NOT a Project Sapphire / Metropolitan Police document. As far as Project Sapphire is aware, no such “survey” of convicted rapists has ever been commissioned. Significant parts of the advice are not helpful. It also needs to be stressed that less than 10% of reported rapes are stranger attacks.*
For information, and advice, on rape/sexual assault you can visit the Sapphire website http://www.met.police.uk/sapphire/index.htm
Blacknet UK wish to apologise to all users groups, visitors and members who may have read and/or acted upon any information contained in the offending article and for any inconvenience, suffering or distress this may have caused.
We also wish to thank the individual who brought this matter to our attention.”

Multiple .38 caliber holes until he decides he has somewhere else to be?
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Re: Defending against rape
The OP reads as if written by a scared (but trying real hard to be brave) woman trying to think like a rapist.
I think Chris did a writeup on this topic.
The #1 thing is not to let yourself be taken anywhere, ever.

When I assisted teaching Self-Defense for Women, I advocated Grab, squeeze, twist, and pull. With the additional advice to visualize remove said wedding tackle that they might be placed in a pocket or purse.
Knee attacks are good, Sounds like a front stomp kick downward through the knee. If the foot is turned so that either the footblade, or the instep is the contact surface, worst case is a subducted knee cap. Best case is joint destruction.
But I prefer lateral knee attacks over front to back. The knee is weaker that way. I agree that this attack requires more skll, but as a follow up to GSTP it works
I Also taught the Thumbs on cheekbones roll in and shove thing. I've Never seen it used, but have second hand stories that support the theory.
But the keys remain (as I join the chorus) situational awareness, self possession, willingness to fight back

Re: Defending against rape
An attack in the home has the added convenience(for the attacker) of having the secondary crime scene built in. It's private, and nobody has to get hauled out anywhere for whatever depravity is in mind.CByrneIV wrote:In fact, the most common rape location is in the home, not outside it.
