Lady friend is afraid of having unsecured guns around, but understands the need for having one and has tried very hard to meet me halfway on this. She also understands that at Oh-Dark-Thirty, a keyed or combination gun safe isn't the most practical thing in the world. Yet, with small children around, you can't blame her for being cautious. She suggested this today. What do you think?

There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

7 and 4. For the record, we have the doors well-secured and are erring on the side of caution, regarding the kids, right now.

Wouldn't pick that particular style. Technology is too "new".

When I grew up there was guns in lots of houses, and very few of them were locked up. It was more or less the common opinion that anyone that had a rifle locked up probably didn't use it much and wasn't much good with it. I recall being in farmers houses where a rifle was leaned against the wall next to the door, and none of the kids ever touched it.
However, to answer the OP. I'd get a regular safe with a key lock. Attach the key to a bracelet and wear it while sleeping. Even if you're asleep, operating a key in a lock is pretty easy, and I'd trust that before I trust some biometric lock.
If you have the key attached to your arm, you wont have to look for it.

Can you put it too high for them to reach and out of sight?
ETA: I might not understand the whole dynamic since my kids are gun proof.

If you do that, take the original key when new and get a good copy made out of high quality steel. Then hide the original somewhere so you never use it other than to make another key for use. I have had more than one original key be made out of tinfoil and break off with the smallest of twist. That makes for a VERY bad day.
