Any animal that eats pigeons like a peregrine falcon is my favorite.
Being citified, hipsters should be all over that.
That line was meant more as self-depreciating humor....that haircut...and I wondered why I rarely had a date in high school...

Urban falconry is great stuff...flights on fast-movers such as pigeons can be very exciting...perfect for a smaller hawk like a coopers, or merlin.

I do agree- anyone getting involved in shooting sports while not bothering to learn the basics of safety is a good way to give us a black eye.
(The falconry community views this in the same way...it's not something to get involved with on a whim.)

Don't knock pigeon gumbo until you've tried it. We ate a bunch of it in college, mainly between paydays. It's cheap, it's tasty, and it's right there on the sidewalk.
I've never eaten rock dove, but if it's anything like mourning dove, I might have to break out the mist nets and grab a few. There is a fair amount of danger of disease transmission with densely populated pigeons, but IIRC those are mainly within the crop and organs...

The Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box has a recurring character who's a falconer -- Box gets a bit too mysto about it for my taste but still it's interesting to get some insights from those stories.

The other advantage being when you f*** up with falcons and hawks, the consequences are immediate, but seldom life-threatening.

Don't worry about the hs pic. Just ditch the cap, get yourself a Mongolian pony and a wolf fur suit, and you're a certified badass.

Ruger and Browning should target hipsters.

Red Labels and Citoris should sell like corn dogs at an Iowa fair to that bunch. Browning could even show a pic of BHO shooting a Citori. Link

PawPaw, I ate a lot of pigeon breast and pigeon pie as a young'un--grew up on a farm with an Amish-built barn--all those upper loft beams had pigeon nests in the corners. Work your way along a horizontal beam, grab the squab, throw it down to your brother who wrings the neck, and it only gets better when Mom heats up that oven. Shotgunning the pigeons attempting to come back to roost as daylight fails is great wingshooting--another constant supply, and quite a few farms to shoot over. I was talking about city pigeons, of which I want no part. I've seen too many nasty lookin' feathered rats in the big towns. Pigeon flocks fly a long ways, so maybe there's not much difference, but as a boy I always hoped there was.....
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.

First game bird I ever took was a pigeon... Out for an after school walkabout with my H&R Topper 12 ga. High passing shot.

Made a bit of a mess of it trying to figure out how to extricate the breast but eventually got it into a little marinade and the (oops) overcooked it. Even so was a passable fine bit dark meat. Even bit into a pellet -- made for the complete "first" experience. /heh/
